You think so?

I do. I have no faith in him. I think Hughes and Petterson are guys you build around and you don't grind them because you messed up your cap elsewhere by signing bad FA's like Myers. They are you present and future. Benning doesn't seem to grasp what he wants to be. He overpays depth and then apparently wants to get these guys on cheaper deals. It's dumb. He'll make a mistake and it will cause major issues down the road.

Obviously the Hughes brothers wanna play on the same team. So signing a short term deal is risky. Also you make absolutely 0 sense and then you say I don’t know how negotiations work. I don’t need to say this but I do have a Masters in negotiation & conflict. Along with a Bachelor in Business & Marketing. I’m also getting my bachelor right now for my Sports Analytics degree. You need to understand the whole picture. Vancouver could not afford to lose Hughes. There are over 6 recent deals signed and the players were the ones I mentioned. Some were RFA and some were UFA. Yes the UFA/RFA can somewhat factor in but when you have 6 deals that all paid much more than what you’ve offered. It’s like you’re employer offering you $30/hour and other coworkers with very similar skill asset are getting offered $50/hour.

There’s 2 deals that affect Hughes negotiations, Heiskanen and Makar. You lack the understanding of how much RFA vs UFA affects negotiations.

I know exactly how that works buddy. You don’t need to teach me about that topic. I clearly had stated that UFA/RFA have impact but it’s very little impact regarding Hughes situation. The RFA goes against his odds, but him being able to leave to New Jersey is another factor. Drives me crazy how you don’t understand. Hughes will 100% look at Jones, Makar, Heiskanen, Hamilton, Nurse, and many other and compare his analytics to those players. If players in his skill set are getting paid that much, his agent will request the same amount. The reason why I say his scenario is different because if he doesn’t get that 9 million dollar long term contract. He’ll sign a 3 year deal and move on to New Jersey. How is it that complicated to understand that? Now if his brothers weren’t on the same team then that would be a different scenario. We both do not know what direction Hughes is headed but you still want to put out a argument. Let’s see how it plays out. For example if I had the opportunity to play with my brothers I will sign a short deal and move on. But that’s me. Hughes might think the same or he might think differently. Hughes isn’t gonna get on live TV or tell his agent to tell public media that he wants to sign a short deal and play with his bros. You’re only basing it off hockey and not factoring in his personal life. You’re not a GM, you’re not a scout, or a agent. Neither am I. Let’s just wait it out. Don’t take this personally my brother because I’m not saying this in a rude way at all. But please, you have to factor in many other aspects. I got a professional sports degree and a business degree so I can somewhat relate to these situations. However, this isn’t something you learn. Because you have to factor in this. Let’s just for example say Hughes is a UFA, the Kings GM might say I’m only offering Hughes 8M because that’s what he’s worth. Now NJ says I think he’s worth 8.5M. Every Gm has different approaches. One might value a player more than another. One GM might need Hughes more on his team than another so he’ll offer more. I get it Hughes is a RFA so he doesn’t have that luxury. That’s why If he doesn’t get what he wants. He signs a 3 year deal. And he’ll wait and see offers from 31 other teams and I can guarantee you a lot of teams who have that cap space will offer 8.5M+ on a 6+ year deal.

I hope he doesn’t. Vancouver is a exciting team when they’re good. I know that can be said for a lot of teams but watching the 2010 playoffs, it was lit. Besides the riots.

You moved the goal posts and then contradicted yourself all in one post. That’s actually impressive. Hughes will not get $9M this offseason because he doesn’t measure up to the other RFA that signed for that cap hit, Makar. But yes when he hits UFA he might because of contracts that have been signed by Jones and Nurse when there’s a real threat of actually leaving the team.

Or he signs a 2 year deal with a major QO and walk himself or FA

I think it’s 3 years before he hits UFA right?

5 years for Quinn. He has 5 RFA years left. That’s why the OP is 6 years. Only buying 1 UFA year, hence the smaller aav

If he burns a year of FA he's getting over 8. Makar made it impossible for him to sign for less on that term

Yeah fair enough. I guess it’s more medium term. But the main idea here is buying UFA years

Travis Sanhiem just signed a 2 year 4.6M dollar deal. Your Quinn Hughes deal is looking more and more like a under pay.

Travis sanheim is 25 years old with arbitration rights. The 2 year deal buys 0 UFA years but he will still expire as a UFA.

That is not a comparable deal

Just to give you some additional information. My major study involves Major Sports. Mainly focused on my future with the NHL. I’ve got intel with a 6 x 7M offer on Quinn Hughes. Agent has it on either a 3 x 7M deal. Or a 6 x 8.25M deal. I’ll have more intel on it before or on Wednesday.

I currently can’t confirm the accuracy to the intel I got. The intel is apparently coming from one of the Vancouver Canucks Scouts. Once again I can’t confirm it’s 100% true so please give me a couple more days. My instructor states he’s friends with one of the Pro Scouts from the Sharks and is friends with one of the Pro Scouts from Vancouver. I was told by a classmate but Wednesday is when I have class so I’ll confirm the information. But the full info I have right now is Vancouver is not trying to go full term on Hughes & Pettersson. But what I am currently told is Pettersson is pretty much locked on a 3 Year x 8 Million dollar deal. They’re going to finalize both deals on the same day. Hughes is trying to lock on a 6 x 8.25M deal but Vancouver is not trying to go over 7M deal. They’re trying to sign up a shorter deal until Myers contract is over. But once again I can’t confirm this is all true right now.

Sheesh man I hope you’re not lying. I wouldn’t mind a 7X3. Got anything on Pettersson?

Well I’m not lying i don’t know if my classmate is. I don’t see any reason why he would lie but on Wednesday I have class I’ll find out for sure. Haha I hope it’s true haha. I wouldn’t yet be surprised because my instructor was a ex scout for the Sacramento Kings so I would hope it true. But on the previous comment I mentioned Pettersson. Apparently they’ve locked him on a 3 Year x 8M deal but waiting to announce Pettersson and Hughes deal together.
