I can't find any good reasons why Toronto would even consider any of these moves... oh wait, 1 look at your profile and you're a Pens fan: now this thread makes more sense.

You've been proposing a Rust trade a lot and in many, retaining with the Pens still sending top stuff the other way. Rust makes $3.5M. There's no reason the retain at the deadline. The cap hit will be prorated for the duration of the season if I'm not mistaken.

Pit will most likely be in the same spot at the deadline as toronto. Pit knows how to get wins with minimal depth

They should sell off on rust instead of giving him an extension.

If they're out of the race? Sure. If they're still in the thick there's no way they trade him.

Toronto doesn't need them - so you won't get value. Rust is of no interest, they already have enough wingers that shoot right. And Aston-Reese is similar to Mikheyev so there's not much point in acquiring him, unless they wanted more depth in that case you'd be lucky to get a mediocre prospect or a mid round pick. But in no way are you getting back a top prospect and a high pick.

Leafs aren't interested in the Buffalo deal either. Dermott is just as good as Miller and has more contract term. Nothing suggests that Miller is worth Kerfoot and a pick more than Dermott just because of the way he shoots.

Leafs likely won't just dump Engvall either - it's possible but they could use all the depth they can get so throwing him away for a 7th doesn't help them win.

Rust seems like a nice piece for any team. I sure hope as a Leaf fan that they don't trade Amirov for a few months rental.
Aston Reese doesn't add much....Leafs are just as good to keep Engvall.
Leafs need the dependable at centre or even left wing. To trade Kerfoot straight up for Miller doesn't seem wise, and to add Dermot makes it worse.

Well nobody wants Engvall, so dumping him won't happen.

ZAR is nothing like Mikheyev. ZAR is one of the best shut-down forwards in the league.

If you think TOR wouldn't want Rust at half price for a playoff run then you're out of touch with what teams do at the deadline. If you can affordably stack your lines, you do it. That said, TOR would need to add something to that trade.

But I do. Yeah he's nice but a 3rd/4th liner the Leafs have. Certainly not worth the price suggested.

He's worlds better defensively than any of the bottom six forwards you currently have.

Oh no, I do. The quality of you depth is a major reason why you guys keep losing every year.

That's not true. Biggest problem has the big guys haven't come through in the playoffs. It's a CapFriendly thought the Leafs top players are so untouchable and the bottom enders are to blame.
The Penguins haven't won a playoff series in years. What's the reason.?

I think you're missing the point of depth. Part of the reason for having quality depth is to pick up the slack when the big boys aren't delivering. One of the major reasons the Pens won in back-to-back cups was because of how good our third line was.

LOL As far as us losing? We have plenty of reasons:
1) Sid and Geno getting older.
2) Rutherford completely mismanaged this team with regular bad trades and bad signings.
3) This year goaltending was the main factor.

Depth scoring has never been the issue in Toronto lmfaoo. This year in playoffs we had more goals from our depth than MTL did in that series. Literally it’s been Mathews and Marner. If they stepped up in the big moment we won.

Also the leafs don’t need Rust or ZAR especially giving up Amirov and a 2nd. Leafs will need quality top 6 LWs in 2 years why give them away for players not even his caliber. If we trade a Amirov it’s to get someone with term and an already elite player in the league not 2 bottoms 6Fs

Just stop with these. You try and trade Rust in almost every ACGM and they all are trash for the pens. This one is the worst by far. Pens can get alot more for him. And were not retaining when this is his last year, that's idiotic and makes 0 sense.

Wow. This is very very wrong. Nobody was scoring aside from Nylander and Spezza. It's pretty simple to take a look at who scored from you, so how could you get this so wrong?

Eight players scored one goal each and half of them are top players: Matthews, Rielly, Hyman and Brodie. Leafs fans are truly astounding.

Spezza was a 4th liner. That’s the definition of depth.

Top 6F and top 2 dman: 8 goals
Rest of the team: 10 goals

I don’t think depth was an issue and again we are not selling Amirov for 2 bottom 6Fs who won’t resign with us due to cap constraints. If we trade Amirov it’s for a young top 6F with term.

This ain’t 2013 where you see top prospect being traded for Martin Erat. If a top prospect is traded it’s for a legit player. Rust ain’t that bud and same with ZAR.

Mikheyev does his defensive role just fine. There's no point in spending an asset on Aston-Reese when they already have a similar (& faster) player in Mikheyev.

Rust would be at beta a 3rd line forward on Toronto. They already have Marner and Nylander in the top 6 on the RW, and they need another left handed shot in the top 6 (hence why they traded for Foligno last deadline). So how does Rust being a righty help that in anyway?

Take off your bias glasses and look at the other teams needs. Toronto has no need for either of them if that's the price. Pretty clear to see.

ONE depth player with multiple goals. You can change the narrative all you want, you're simply wrong. You got little depth help overall. One depth player scoring 3 goals isn't your entire depth. Sooooo wrong.

The trade is is actually in fair of the Leafs. Teams always overpay at the deadline and Rust without retention is worth a 1st and a b prospect. Retained, at the deadline, and with ZAR. Definitely a 1st and A prospect minimum. I just don’t think it’s a trade Toronto would be interested in though as I can see them trying to add a physical top 9 presence to replace Hyman before adding another speedy scoring midget.

To be perfectly fair, the bottom 6, defense or goaltending wasn't the reason Leafs lost. Leafs lost because Tavares almost died and their elite talent can't figure out how to be effective in the playoffs. Tinkering with depth and arguing over which team has a better bottom 6 is pointless. All this talk about trading Kerfoot and what his value is... like he was one of the Leafs best forwards after JT went down.
