There's a difference between not useful, and not needed. Lehkonen is definitely a useful player.
I don't understand why so many trades involve moving him "just because". I understand if it's necessary to add him to a package, but not for prospects/picks.
We need good two-way players and PK'ers to insulate our younger guys and players with dubious defensive ability.

I am more perplexed by the rush to toss Byron away. When he is healthy enough to play, he has always proven worth his salary. When he is hurt, which is a lot, he doesn't cost the Habs a lot when he's on IR. So the only reason for dumping him is if you feel there is a better prospect in the wings. I haven't seen evidence of that.

He's also a useful player and a unique weapon with his speed. It's at least understandable however. His production is down, so his contract doesn't look like good value. Not a cap dump as he's often made to be, but he's a luxury at that price point.
Any team could have an improved bottom 6 and PK with Byron on their roster, but that improvement isn't worth spending an extra $2M over another player who is "good enough". He's better than a lot of bottom 6 players, but not 3x better.
