Quoting: Amakoue
Huh? Not really
Jared spurgeon, Calen addison
Jonas brodin, matt dumba
Alex G, Kuliov
Guerin doesn't want old players like leddy, and leddy value right now is barely a 3rd round pick
Also incorrect.
So long as a player can still play; Guerin isn't opposed to either keeping, acquiring, or signing an older player. Age really has no bearing on it, so long as the player provides some other intangible benefit to offset their age and aren't looking at the Wild as some sort of working retirement plan.
Bonino was 33 when Guerin traded for him.
Cole was also 32 when Guerin traded for him as well.
Goligoski is 35, a year younger than Suter.
Kulikov is 30, hardly a spry chicken in the prime of his career either.
Unlike Parise and Staal, who both don't have much left in the tank, the players listed above can all still play effectively well at an NHL caliber level to varying degrees despite their age.
Leddy is no different than those listed above, and happens to be the same age as Kulikov, is
still a legitimate Top 4 defenseman and likely won't see any major reduction in playing ability for at least another 4-5 years. He is still easily worth a c-level prospect and a 2nd round pick
before retention and/or a contract extension, just not two B-level prospects as was proposed here.
Suter is different from the others because even though he can still play, there are concerns and rumors about his lockerroom culture and presence on the team. Everyone listed above minus Parise and Staal are well known to have a great lockerroom presence on top of their solid play.
