I think we (we as in Canes fans on this site) are relying a little to much on Gardiner being a LTIRetirement/season-long thing. From the reports, it sounded like he doesn't want the surgery that Canes want him to get and I'm taking that as he wants to keep playing. Hiding a player on LTIR only works if they are fine with not playing

You could say that, I’m not sure if the medical staff is keen on him possibly playing injured. I think if he doesn’t go on LTIR, they’ll try to trade him. They likely will have to pay to get rid of him though, like the flyers did with Shayne Gostisbehere. Bottom line is he just doesn’t fit anywhere now with Cole and Bear brought in, no point in having a 7th D man laying around making 4 million bucks, when you have a big need for at least one, possibly multiple top 9 forwards lol. We’ll see what happens I guess

Seemed like Isles are in on him but wanted to see how the injury played out. Will be curious to see how they handle it. Do we showcase him so he can prove he’s not injured? Or does he succumb to surgery advice by the doctors? Lots of ways this could play out and ultimately it could be hampering some of our top 9 trades if they’re not sure how/when he’ll be off the books.
