they'll take the Monahan trade but definitely not the Tkachuk trade

The habs wouldn’t trade Caufield for anyone in Calgary’s organization. There’s probably only a handful of player in the league they would move him for, and none of them are getting traded anytime soon.

Armia hasn’t even played a game on his new contract, and it’s useless to acquire Monahan only to give up Kotkaniemi.

I’d take that Tkachuk trade and run if I were the Flames. It makes them a bit better in the short term and way better in the long term.

no it doesn't. Calgary isn't looking sell Tkachuk or trade him for quantity. Caufield probably has top 6 potential but I doubt he ever gets to the level of Tkachuk. Flames are gonna sell Monahan and Gaudreau, not Tkachuk

I would probably do the Monahan trade. I don't see Armia being moved right after signing a contract though.

I wouldn't do the Chuky trade. Not that the value is bad, Caufield should be a stud, but I don't think having Caufield and JG in the top 6 is a winning recipe.

Value in both deals is fair or at least pretty close

Now the questions would be :

- is it the direction both teams want to go?
- are both teams enamored with the players involved or would they like some tweaks?

I have seen some Habs fans tell me that Caufield has 50 goals/100 points potential so... I don't know but keep that in mind lol

Why would the Flames do either trade Kotkaniemi has 22 goals in his first 3 seasons... Monahan has only scored less then 20 goals one season... Armia is a waiver wire player. Caufield might be ok only a few games in the NHL could go either way... And Drouin needs a first to be given away... Horrible trades.

I never said that Calgary would take the Monahan trade. Also, Armia is a waiver wire player? That’s the funniest **** I’ve heard all week. Clearly you’ve never watched him play.

Caufield is already a top 6 forward. So he ain’t that far off. I’ll gladly take that bet.

We’ll see how it goes, but IMO Cole is already Montréal’s best offensive player. His shot is good, but not great, but he’s a smart player and gets a lot of shots which helps his scoring. And he’s a great playmaker. And his speed really helps him be a big threat on the rush, unlike Suzuki and Toffoli.

I’d say that 20 playoff games in a season is a pretty good sample size to tell at least how good of a player he is in relation to his teammates. And if he’s a top line player on a team that makes it to the cup finals, then he’s absolutely a top 6 player already.

Wtf Joel Armia is a "waiver wire" player? lol some takes here are truly terrible... well, like all over the internet. I'll never understand why people talk about things they don't know about. I understand politics, but my knowledge is still limited compared to politics fans so I don't engage in debates on the subject. If I wanted to do that, I'd have to read on the subject a lot more

Yeah Cole will be a top-6 forward. I have been saying between Cam Atkinson and Alex DeBrincat for a while. I maintain this

Funnily, Hoffman is a similar player too. Need to respect his shot and be aware when he's on the ice. Montreal will have a good PP this year I think. Their ES will hurt a bit though, Danault, Tatar gone, Hoffman in, etc

He’s also been our 4th best forward this season. (Behind Drouin, Hoffman, and Perreault) Our roster is bonkers right now. I mean might as well put him on a team that can actually make the playoffs this year.
