Tara - conditional with risky situation

Created by: vikhodush
Team: 2021-22 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 20, 2021
Published: Aug. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Original concept around some of the Tara conditions came from evelutions2, but I tweaked it. I think it's likely at this point that Armstrong wants to showcase that Tara is healthy and effective still since he hasn't gotten what he deems as fair value or acceptable offers because teams are concerned about Tara's health, and rightfully so.

This essentially takes most of the risk out of it for both sides. The Canes are protected if Tara is hurt but if he meets the conditions they'll happily bump up those picks. The Blues get a really nice piece in Suzuki and a solid, immediate contributor who would probably fit in well with how they like to play in Fast either way. If Tara doesn't perform or gets hurt, this is still a good return, and if he pops those 2 potential first rounders would make them feel much better. Not to mention the cap space they're gaining.

This scenario assumes the report around the long-term deal w/ Svech has some legs. If it ends up being a cheaper, bridge deal I could see the Canes not including Fast but I wanted to do that to offset some of the cap to try to make one more top 9 improvement.

The top 9 improvement comes in the form of Rakell, and probably around the TDL. The extra 2nd is for some retention, but I think overall value is close - could swap out prospects if Rees isn't enough but he's projecting out as a middle 6 C with some physicality even though he's a bit under-sized. His ceiling is probably Trochek.

I see where you're going with this, but FYI adding Fast hurts the offer more than it helps it. The Blues would much rather have Keane or Cotton instead, I'd think.

This is definitely a way better situation than the one I proposed. Although I would rather not put 2 1st round picks on the line for a question mark. The 2022 conditional pick is fine, but I would adjust the 2024 conditional pick to upgrade to a 3rd if he scores 25 goals, and to a second if he scores 30 goals.

Could easily do that. I'm fine keeping Fast, just wanted an upgrade on the third line but can probably move him in a separate deal to make space for Rakell or somebody similar.

I think the conditional picks are more than fair value since CAR is taking on all the risk and STL is dumping 7.5 mil in salary.

In my eyes, drop the players and make one of the conditionals a guaranteed mid round pick. Even then I think that’s a lot.

Yeah, I think I leaned more towards the overpay side. I try not to underpay on trades on here b/c the bias can easily do that for me but I think I usually end up overpaying haha

I wouldn’t worry too much about what other people think. None of us are actually moving assets. If you’re concerned about people yelling at you for something, online message boards aren’t the best place to be…

lol I don't care about ppl yelling at me on a fantasy board of all places - I just over compensate offers to make sure I'm not wearing my bias glasses when proposing trades for players I likely inherently over-value.

Philosophy!

I think that’s another kind of bias, even if it’s not your natural one. I just work off the assumption that I’m a homer, but I’ll be damned if I can’t give you 40 reasons why my bias is actually justified. Lol.

Haha same here - I can argue all day about why I'm right even though I'm biased

Sure they would. Carolina would rather have Kyrou. Taking on all of Tarasenko's contract hurts too. Getting back a former 1st who played in the AHL at 19 and had a pretty good WJC-20 last season is a pretty good return for Tarasenko and all of his contract.

Instead of Fast retain 3 mil???

I like the idea however, as St. Louis I would say the goals one should be 15 for a second (more likely to hit) and a first for 35 ( less likely but worth it if he hits it.)

Heh. Did you just compare Cotton and Keane to Kyrou? At best, those guys are B prospects.
