I know Lucic is a good locker room got and what not that provides some toughness and whatever else he does. But to Detroit he's a straight cap dump. He would cost at minimum a first and probably a B prospect. Or someone like Coronato or Pelletier and a second. Something like that I would expect. Then maybe if the package is good enough so we add Erne.

While the Eichel proposal is fairly reasonable, the hitch would be Sabres retaining any salary for the next 5 years on Eichel's contract - whether it's good business practice as a sweetener to get a better deal or not, the principle of paying a player who is forcing his way out, publicly and privately, will be too much for the vain Owners to accept. And if they were somehow to be persuaded by Adams to swallow their pride and retain some of Eichel's cap hit (maybe even up to $2M/Yr), then the Flames package would have to be slightly upgraded - Coronato, while taken 12th, was the 38th overall ranked prospect. Substitute Pelletier in for Coronato and make the 1st rounder unprotected if the Flames somehow were lottery eligible and it would seem fair for both sides

Detroit keeps Erne, And zero chance of Lucic waiving for a rebuilding team like Detroit.

Easy No from Wings.

A. Lucic has 11.5 million in cap over next two years, is 33 and shadow of former player.
B. He is a troubled player with history of doing strange and dumb things. Not the kind of player you want in a young locker room.
C. Erne is younger and trending up, so why would a rebuilding team take only a 2nd for an over the hill player making almost 3 times as much as Erne and only walk away with a 2nd?

I have already explained the reasoning on the trade. It was souley for cap purposes. There would be other ways to work with the cap but I didn't feel like figuring it out so I went the easy route.

I really like that return for Eichel.
Dube is an NHL player
Zary is a year or two away
Coronato was a first round pick from last year.
A first this year, giving Buffalo three this year.
If Calgary fans like it I do as well.
Could I suggest one change, add Lucic to the trade and drop the Eichel retention.
Milan is then bought out by Buffalo and can go where he wants.
When Okposo's contract expires, Milan's cap hit to Buffalo will only be $510,416 for two more years.
Every body wins, Calgary gets the cap space, Buffalo receives and excellent return, Milan gets bought out and can go play with any team that wants him.
I am sure there are many teams that would take him at $1,000,000.

I don't know that Lucic being included is realistic for 2 reasons: 1) Lucic waived his NMC for the expansion draft because he wanted to help the Flames out and sounded like he's OK with his role on the team (he certainly fits Sutter's style of team); and 2) Adams has emphasized that he won't take on dead cap money. Taking on Monahan - assuming he would waive his M-NTC - at least gives Sabres a short-term center with experience to help take some of the pressure off Cozens and Mittelstadt once Eichel is dealt.

Thank you for your insightful answer.
If Lucic is included in the trade and is bought out by the Sabres, he could resign with the Flames.
I know the Sabres may be reluctant to take on dead cap but, without Jack, they are about $18,000,000 below the floor of $60,200,000 with only Dahlin, Jokiharju and Mittelstadt left to sign.
But I guess it makes too much sense, so I am sure it would never happen.
If the Sabres retain, that will be for 5 years at $1,250,000. Buying out Lucic will cost the Sabres $510,416 in years 3 and 4 and nothing in year 5.
Finally, I hope the Sabres can make more trades similar to the Butcher trade, taking on cap for picks. That trade is truly remarkable because Butcher's contract is commensurate for his production.
Remember when Brooks Orpik was traded to Colorado in 2018, bought out then he resigned with Washington at a fraction of his previous hit.
Sakic received a small compensation for that move, he only got Philipp Grubauer for a second.

There’s still no chance Detroit does this that’s an overpay i don’t care what you say at all there’s no justification of them a younger improving player
