Makes no sense at all to trade Brannstrom for a 30 year old winger who can't stay healthy, and a 31 year old LD who they don't need at all

Does brannstrom always play RD?

It's his preference, but he's hardly played It at all as a Senator. The Organization feels he runs himself out of options and dead ends himself on the right side.

It's a moot point anyway, because Ottawa isn't trading him without a high end young top 6 player coming back.

It was only a question, not about the trade

Personally, I "like" this trade BUT it would have to mean that Ottawa is going "all in" in wanting to make playoffs and wanting to win rounds already. So that means, be ready to spend to the cap every year and do whatever it takes to make the team better

I also think it's fair value. I understand if a Sens fan wouldn't want to trade Brannstrom for "older" players but it makes the team better in the short term and those 2 could be good stop gap vets while younger guys still develop. However, that would go against the rebuilding strategy of the last few years.

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Stutzle-Pinto-Tarasenko
Formenton-White-Brown
Paul-Brown-Watson

Chabot-Zub
Scandella-Zaitsev
Del Zotto-Holden
Mete

It's starting to look very solid, particularly that top-9

That being said, if Brannstrom can be used in a package for a younger significant piece, then do it instead

Can't see Ottawa doing this, and while he's a fine prospect Brannstrom isn't the type of D-man the Blues want.

Really bad use of cap space for Ottawa. HARD PASS.
