paying EP and QH market value read description pls

Created by: kingkanuck
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 21, 2021
Published: Aug. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Using Corsica Hockey's ratings Pettersson is rated 77.75 and Hughes is rated 75.21.
This makes EP the 32nd rated forward and QH the 35th rated Dman.
I would pay them what other closely rated players are earning.
FORWARDS
Of the higher rated players - Claude Giroux is rated 77.85 (944 games) and earns $8.275M/yr.
Of the lower rated players - John Tavares is rated 77.57 (870 games) and earns $11M/yr.
Other closely rated players earn between $4.5M/yr and $7.0m/yr.
As EP has played only 165 NHL games and I would pay him $7.5M for a 3 year bridge deal.
DEFENSEMEN
Of the higher rated players - Aaron Ekblad is rated 75.35 (493 games) and earns $7.5M/yr.
Of the lower rated players - Ryan Pulock (290 games) is rated 75.06 and earns $5.0M/yr.
Other closely rated players earn between $5.95/yr and $4.1M/yr.
As QH has played only 129 NHL games and I would pay him $5.75M/yr on a 4 year bridge.
If the deals need to be adjusted to keep them from becoming UFAs reduce them by a year.

The cynic in me impels me to say that asking people to "read description pls" is like asking people to pay attention to the "Walk/Don't Walk" signs on the street corner.

I like your financial analysis, though.

I like the analysis, I think you will be met with skepticism, and that was my initial reaction.
I have not gone through all player comparables, but using cap percentage instead of dollar value gives a different picture, Giroux as a comparable for example signed for 12.87% of the cap, which with today's cap hit would be $10.5m - I dont know however whether NHL execs think this way either.

I think that Vancouver should try to sign the two of these guys for under $14M combined for this season. Your analysis is good support for this argument. We all know that negotiations involving people means that we could very well end up with anything between $13 - $15M though.

Either way, we''re going to find out in the next 5 - 6 weeks.

Pretty good but I’d add try to get the Canucks at max cap with Ferland on IR to start the season. Idc if a player or more is papered to Abby. Then LTIRetire Ferland day 1 to max out LTIR cap relief as it accrues during the season. Then recall the papered players day 1.
