Good deal, Sanheim is a solid top 4 D, this does bring him to UFA though

He's better than Provorov and makes 2/3rds of his salary. Philly likely going to have to restructure in two years regardless. I have no idea why people would dislike this contract.

This is a settlement prior to arbitration, but voluntarily giving Sanheim his exit card seems like an odd way for Philly to give up. I know that he had a bad year defensively, but I would have thought that the Flyers would keep him in their plans. I wonder if the details (i.e., what the team offered and what Sanheim asked for) will ever emerge.

because if he is really better than Provorov then youd like to not walk him to UFA. also, just because philly is going to have to restructure doesnt make the term okay

he got like 100k for every goal he bled out on the ice.

I know the NHL has a serious shortage of defensemen. I know the question of, who else is going to do it, is a real issue.
But FFS.
I have been pretty clear that the NHL needs to start playing the youth sooner. I have echoed that time and time again for the penguins. So many people object with "they aren't ready"....... on guys who could probably step up with minimal problems.
This contract right here is a prime example of that. When there are no defensemen, they start making a killing at the top, the Need way out paces the supply and the over pay starts trickling down to massive payouts for guys who really should not be getting paid this much, over and over and over again. It's time for the NHL to pull it's head out it's butt and start playing the youth.

If you add his points and his +/- for the year, he's at a -7. Yikes. Again, the Poolman contract with the Canucks is a bad contract, but it no longer stands out as a bad contract. It is lost in a sea of bad contracts given out to defensemen this year.

The Arbitration hearing must have scared the crap out of Philadelphia for them to sign this deal.

You can always make room by trading Provorov smile

An overpayment and takes him right to the free agency. I dont expect any interest in him though. People who say he s better than Provorov, we are watching a different hockey.

Walks him right to UFA

If it was a 4-5 year deal, that would be good

I can't remember. Is Provorov more of an offensive defenseman or a defensive one? If he's defence first, he won't be. If he's offense first though...

Ya, it wouldn't be pretty.

I don't understand the hate behind this contract sure maybe you could have added a few more years but Sanheim is a legit top 4 defenseman and should fit really nicely next to Risto.

He's just ice time first. I think he's seen as defensively great, but I have no idea why other than getting minutes. Like I don't think he's really bad and still somehow rated like Ristolainen, I just have no idea what he did to earn the minutes and salary of a #1.5
