A heck of a lot of moving parts for a team who’s fate still rides on Mrazek and Campbell.

Yeah that was one part I couldn't quite figure out. I was really hoping the Leafs would go after Grubauer in the off season. And I think the cost would be too high to try and get him from Seattle now.

That Devils trade is dumb....they just got Graves

Which is why the Leafs would slightly overpay for the deal. Furthermore the deal doesn't really hurt the Devils.

(Ottawa) Trade has been updated.

I still think it's no. Kase / Watson is a wash, Batherson had same number of goals as Nylander, and actually hits people. But you have Ottawa throwing in 2 picks. I don't think you can use "Nylander for Batherson+ stuff" as your concept, unless the plus is taking back Zaitzev. Batherson at his age and contract has more value to the Sens than Nylander and his contract.

The Lightning are $6mil over the cap. To add to that is the outrage from around the league on what they pulled in the playoffs. The NHL is keeping a stern eye on them and they MUST get under cap. Picking up players that will be cost effective for a while plus a draft pick is a wise move on their part. They also are not giving up much in the grand scheme of things in this trade. So I firmly disagree

And they have 6.7 mil in ltir they aren't giving up a young club controlled right hand shot defenseman (they desperately need) this trade is ridiculous and your argument for it is even more so. Both Colton and Foote are on extremely club friendly contracts so they trade them for"cap space" dumbest argument I've read on here.

You do realize the Devils want to be good too right? They took advantage of a team that would lose him in expansion, which is why the price was low....teams aren't in this to feed TOR.

Trade has been updated.

I see that. I'd still rather have Watson than Kase, and don't see the Nylander for Batherson is a trade that warrants Ottawa adding picks. Yes, Nylander has better stats but he also has been playing with some very high end talent, while Batherson has not. So Batherson, who 2 years younger and you are signing at HALF the cost of Nylander AND will still be RFA at the end of those 3 years, might be much closer in talent than this trade indicates. ALL OF THAT aside, this puts a ticking clock on Ottawa's window of success that was previously not there, and I think that'll be very bad for the young core. I would still turn down this deal.
BsInOttawa liked this.

Well I didn’t make the post nor is Mrazek on the Canes any longer. Irony is that the Canes fate rests on a former Leafs goalie, that’s how ‘ironic’ statements work.

A pretty ironic statement coming from a canes fan...

But he was on the canes, I just figured you would have a lot of faith in him.
