Circumventing the cap

Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 22, 2021
Published: Aug. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Can someone explain how Tampa is getting away with it? I know Kurcherov was on LTIR just before the playoffs started so that allowed Tampa to aquire cap money. But going into the 2021-2022 season, they are about 7 million over with Seabrook on LTIR. I don't undertstand it. And if they can do it, the Leafs can with all the money they have. Isn't it what they did with Robidas Island, same with Lupol when he was saying he was fit enough to play?

LTIR a player doesn’t magically give you more cap. For instance, let’s say you’re at 81.5M cap currently with a 20 man roster. You add Bryan Little you’re now 86.5M and then LTIR him you’re back at 81.5M, net effect = 0.

I’m pretty sure that’s not how LTIR works.

I don’t believe John Moore will be a viable LTIR option.

No they wouldn’t but no one is paying for LTIR.

You're funny, yet you haven't answered my question. Lazy post

Says the guy who can't Google. Putting a player on LTIR means their salary doesn;t count against the cap. It doesn't mean you get extra bonus cap space.

And the Kucherov thing is because the cap doesn;t count in the playoffs (which is a thoroughly **** rule, but it is what it is).

oh okay so it allows you to keep yourself UNDER the cap or at it with your roster given your cap structure, not ADD to it. At least you explained it.

That’s not how it works. If it did than every team would do this.
