Umm, I dont think that's 3 first round picks. NYR are trying to make the playoffs while teams get better and better. A 1st or 2nd line veteran C would really help them go on a run.

You have a 1st on there, Schneider was a 1st and Chytil is worth a 1st. That makes the deal three 1st in value

        not at that price bub.
        Chytil was 21st OV.
        Schneider was 19th OV.
        and a 1st Rounder in 22.

i'm not great at math but that is 3 first round assets.

which top 4RHD could the leafs have gotten that is as good as Holl is 2 mill or cheaper?

The thing is, you wouldnt have to go out and get one. Liljigren is still waiting for his chance and probably would have played with either Reilly or Muzzin. Maybe not better, but your D is kinda stacked on the left side, which means theres guys to mentor Liljigren.

Maybe. Do you guys think Malkin is a good fit for the NYR. And I think it would take a 1st and chytll at least. And then maybe a D prospect.

except that what happens if they arnt ready? a 4d is much more important than a LW when you have 4 forwards like the leafs. What they did makes much more sense, replacing Hyman's production with 3 cheap guys was easier and it gives them more flexibility. Ritchie alone scored as much as Hyman did last year and he wasnt even on the power play.

They picked up Ritchie? Since when? I thought he went to VAN. Or was that Dickinson. Idk whatever. If you're talking about who's better imo its McCann. And if you're talking about who's worth more imo its McCann.

Wouldn’t go as far as to say we want him. Could we swap him and Strome to save you guys cap space, sure. But Malkins value from 2 years ago has dropped..a lot.. if you retained 1/2 his salary then maybe you could squeeze 3 1sts

This trade happens at the draft. Malkin agrees to extension with NYR.

the leafs basically replaced Hyman with Ritchie, Bunting and Kase. Would McCann have been better? Probably, but those guys + Holl is better than the alternative

The Montreal trade would depend on where that pick is. If it's a top ten pick MTL likely says no, if it's in the teens and the youth has shown actual steps forward then they likely take it.

I dont think it depends on anything, MTL Not going to move Romanov plus for a dman who will be 35 at the time. I dont think that makes them better enough in the short term to have any real affect, and certainly makes the habs worse long term. If it was Brook or something with a first maybe and i for sure wouldnt be adding Byron in to increase the cost.

Montreal is not moving Romanov and a 1st for Letang, even with an extension.

        What the?

Devils, Rangers, Habs give you 6th rounders for Rust, Malkin, Letang.
They'll all be UFAs a week later.

That is not how it works though.
The other teams would just wait a week, and sign them as UFAs.

Look at the trades made for pending UFAs in recent years.
Teams aren't giving up young core players and 1st round picks.
Maybe...maybe you can find a late pick.

        Goodrow - 6th rounder
        Hayes - 5th rounder

Show me one trade you could use as a comp for these trades, and I'll bite.
        But there are none.

Even this year, the rumored cost for Dougie Hamilton was a 3rd or 4th rounder.
