No we don't- top 4 RHD on a great contract and Bratt played really really well last season and is on a good deal. He was on pace for 53 points with awesome possession/underlying numbers. Also giving up Bahl who Fitz really likes and a 2nd in a deep draft. Nylander is great but I don't think Fitz pulls the trigger here.

Leafs laugh at that Nylander trade. Not enough. Throw in a first and Leafs consider

Heh. Bratt is nice and all, but might top out as a 3rd liner or maybe a low level 2nd liner. He has skill, but is not fast enough for his size. Bahl is a decent prospect, but many of their D prospects are as good or better. Severson is what I call a 90%-er. He looks decent enough 90% of the time, but is also prone to the huge, timely mistakes that end up in the back of your net. His underlying numbers are misleading in this regard and I'd hardly crow on about 2x4M+ as some great contract - it's okay, at best. Besides, his solid 20-21 season was an outlier, far and away his best (is that him developed or is it a mirage?). All in all, he's easily replaceable, especially with next summer's stacked UFA class.

Nylander, on the other hand, is a genuine difference maker on an actual good deal. If New Jersey doesn't take this trade, Fitz is a total clown. But, of course, he does take it, so... yeah.

Bratt third liner, love it! Bahl's already got games in, does Lilj yet?
Fitz is making way too many good moves to be talked into anything from Dubas.
Willie is nice and all but his soft as hell! Severson and a small piece for Willie, sure!
We can go sign Johnny G for nothin but cash for a similar player. He's from Jersey, I think he had Devs PJs when he was a kid, so I'm not worried!

1- This is hardly a hot take. Pretty much every scouting pundit says the same things.

2- I have no earthly idea what Liljegren has to do with this.

3- Talked into to getting easily the best player in the deal? You should be so lucky.

4- Wait a minute... if Willy is soft, then how does he have 10g13a in 32 playoff games? Besides, he's not around to throw paws or elbows.

5 - That's true. You could certainly go overpay on a UFA deal for a 29 year old next summer instead of having a 25 year old now. Never mind that he's even "softer" than Nylander.

Heh. Or maybe different people just rate different attributes at different priority levels. I could well end up being wrong about Bratt, he's got a goal threat and it wouldn't be the first time a smaller winger proved himself to be a genuine top 6 guy. I just think he's not as fast as you'd like someone his size to be (and I'm not alone in this). Never been a fan of Severson, like I said it's because of all the D-zone mistakes. And I admit he was considerably better last season, but again, I'll need to see him do it again before I consider that his new normal. Plus, Holl is a decent replacement (and much cheaper) and next summer's UFA class is noice.

You are entitled to your opinion.
I watch every Devils game. And have done so for years.

Here is where I disagree with you.

Bratt creates space with his playmaking and stick handling.
He is plenty fast, but more quick than fast.
He is one of league’s best with puck on his stick.
He has been a little too pass-first. More dangerous when he shoots.
He plays heavier/bigger that he appears.
Not afraid of hard areas (even dropped the mitts this year).
He plays top-six on probably 29 of 32 teams.

Severson was our #1 this past year.
He carried Kulikov and Murray at times.
Stick him with a lock-down LD and he is 40-point #2 RD.

Our team is young.
We were hit with 10-month layoff, little pre-season last year.
Then had multiple injuries and whole team got Covid.
Not to mention 3 coaches, 2 GMs, and 2 captains over last couple of years.
We sold all our veterans, including an MVP.
Finished year with youngest forward group in decades.

Don’t confuse a young, developing team with bad players.

Carry on.

"Heh."

I highly, highly doubt you watch many, if any, Devils games if these are your takes on Bratt and Severson. Keep in mind, they just played their age 22 and 26 seasons- Bratt is a legitimate 2nd line\ winger and, as I stated before, has the underlying stats and production to back it up. If you want to say, "he needs to stay healthy in order to justify that prediction" then I'd be more inclined to entertain a conversation with you, but to say "he's not fast enough at his size" so he's not a top 6 winger is kind of silly- he has great edge work and his really good in tight spaces which is more essential than being a burner. You must think Miles Wood is elite because his straight line speed is top notch.

Severson at 2 years and 4.6 million a season is a great contract, I don't really think that's debatable. We see RHD's with his skill set or worse get over paid every summer.

I actually like that trade a lot. We have a plethora of LHD prospects (namely L. Hughes, Mukhamadullin, Bahl, Smith) Bratt and Sevo are brutally overrated by devils fans and a 2nd is not crazy. I also personally like willy and think holl is a decent replacement for sevo.

Just go back and hone your trades for Engvall and Mik trades for the goofy overpayment. Their the new "Bracco's". Reillys the newest of the bunch now! You guys eat sleep breath hockey and the nonsense that comes as potential trades is stunning!
You want old, horrible Severson wait till he shows up in FA, he sucks anyway according to you. If your team wasnt so soft, you'd be further than a 1 series and done team, no?
If I gotta pick soft players, I'll take one that cost me less in assets than one taking them and only cash, I'm good. The 29 year old put up fine numbers, right about where your capt dinosaur (91) did!
