Pavelski

Description
Original idea from TheMooterus - wanted to see how the Canes looked with this trade idea.

Assumes Svech rumored long-term deal is executed. If it turns out to be a bridge deal, less likely that Pavelski would include retention. Also assumed Gardiner is either LTIR or traded in a cap dump.

Not exactly sure of Pavelski value. Historically Canes haven't traded first rounders but they're also in a much different place then they've been in the past 8-10 years so they should adjust their strategy and make some short-term moves / risks to get a better shot at the Cup. Would think a value for Pavelski ranges from a first and a Bokk/Gunler type prospect to a second and a Teiksola/Puistola/Rees type prospect and depends on when the trade happens (now versus TDL) and on retention.

CAR
  1. Pavelski, Joe ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Canes don't necessarily need retention but for the sake of argument I'll include it here to give some added room to make a TDL deal. If no retention, prospect coming back is slightly worse

Would probably try to talk you into the 2022 1st instead of the 2023 1st, but Bokk is solid & I think something could certainly be worked out around him.

You have to also consider he is on a 1 year deal and he is also 37! I doubt he has the same season he did last year so this is more than fair!

Yeah I could see this being fair or an overpay honestly. Taking a risk since the player is at an age where generally most players can't sustain at a top level. But he's been good at age 35 and 36 so maybe he does if he's surrounded by a cup contender? I think it's worth the risk from the Canes perspective personally.

If Kane doesn't play, somehow I'd love for Pavs to come back to SJS.

However, I think Pavs would really help the Canes.

we badly need a RW and if he goes anywhere it should be home to SJS but not for a 1st! id rather wait and pick him up in FA next year! this year is a wash and we should be looking for a top 5 pick in 22!

You’re not wrong. But at 36 he was nearly a PPG player. Surround him with the right players & if he stays healthy, there’s a very realistic chance he could still turn out to be a 70-point player even at 37-years old.

It’s not like I’m trying to sell him Radulov as a 70-point player. Pavelski has the recent history to back up the prediction of him still posting top-line numbers
