October Onset

Created by: BeterChiarelli
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 24, 2021
Published: Aug. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Koskinen will be placed on waivers to start the season (not looking for someone to claim him, just freeing up the $1.05M), Bouchard and McLeod will be paper-transactioned, and Yamamoto will be signed after the first day of the season in order to facilitate the Oilers being under the cap before placing Klefbom on LTIR.

I remain optimistic that the respective situations with Kessel+Arizona and Dallas still wanting to make room for Oettinger can facilitate this trade. Probably happens after the season starts such that Dallas and Edmonton can get Bishop and Klefbom on LTIR in order to accommodate their inbound players. I don't think anyone in the organization has faith left in Koskinen and I give no merit to what Stalock has done in the Da Beauty league. Thus Stalock to the Ducks as insurance for their kid goaltenders in San Diego and Badini keeps the contracts even while representing more value than losing Al to waivers. The combination of Cracknell being signed to an AHL deal, still being productive in the AHL, and the Oilers being apt to lose Marody to waivers leaves me wanting to flip him for some form of value elsewhere on the Condors' roster: I can't see the cash-poor Coyotes refusing Marody in exchange for Hults and fewer questions asked in why they should take Koskinen back. I think Holland would be wise to make this deal and reduce the number of question marks surrounding the Oilers early-season odds from two to one (the blueline).

Holloway to start the season in the AHL as the #2C behind Turris. I'm anticipating he quickly takes the #1C role in Bakersfield and is recalled to the NHL by the New Year. Broberg and Lavoie to play the entire season in the AHL. Samorukov and Turris are probably the primary injury call-ups.

I’m still on board with this idea of Dallas gaining a top 6 scoring forward while getting rid of Dobby for the price of picks.

Everyone involved in the deal should be on board with the trade. I'm absolutely stunned that the three teams haven't make something happen yet.

Out of curiosity, what appears to be the Stars' plan to be cap compliant come the season opening? Their waiver-exempt players only provide about $2.6M in cap relief via paper transaction. Commeau, Bishop and a third piece getting waived to start the season?

Right now with all the waiver exempt players we have still 1.477 to get rid of, so my guess is that they will waive Hanley and Kero with the chances of them getting claimed because realistically there’s no way in hell they’re waiving Blake Comeau (even if they should).

They could maybe waive Bishop, but he has a NMC and they would still need to waive one of Kero or Hanley to get cap compliant.

I mean if Bishop is absolutely toast anyways, that's something he should do the Stars as a favour for continuing to pay him his money.

Comeau for president.
