This is a steal right now. Not sure about the last couple years.

Overall it's a solid signing.

I really like coots, but oh man is that long. He will be nearly 38 when it's over.

Genuinely don't know what to make of this deal.

Speaking of some of the best contracts in the NHL - could be less than ideal in the last few years but right now an elite two way 1C for under 8 is solid

The term is scary, no doubt, but he would have gotten it in UFA anyways.

I don't think this is going to be great towards the back end.

The discounted AAV is worth the overpayment at the end. Good deal for Philly.

Voted no actually, that term is really off putting. Flyers will pray they can build a contending roster as fast as possible.

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do to keep your 1C locked up. This deal might look bad at the end, but it's a steal right now. Perhaps Couturier can slow his aging like Patrice Bergeron has, thus preventing this contract from turning into an albatross.

Basically, Couturier saw what Svechnikov got, asked for it and Philly just gave it to him.

No. This extension doesn't kick in until 2022. At expiry, June 31st 2030 he'll be a few months out from turning 38.

As a Pens fan, I’m not the biggest Flyers fan but I have to admit, I think Sean over here, is one of the best two way players in the league.

Yes to the front end of this contract. No to the last 2/3 years of this contract.

Wow, thought he was going to go for around $9 million with how underpaid he's been on his last contract! The length is a bit scary but I'll take that at the lower average cap hit.

The reason the AAV is relatively low is b/c of the ridiculous term!

I expected the AAV to be closer to 9 or higher. The term is a little high. It is a win-win for both parties. As of right now an absolute steal for one of the most complete players in the game.
