Strome to EDM

Description
What do you think. I predict this trade will be equally unsatisfactory for both fanbase and therefore a good trade for the standards of this site.

For the record, I think Strome going to Edmonton would be great for his career, and I think he would prove the hawks wrong for trading him but at this point I’m sick of the Strome for (Insert Trash Player A, + a 2nd to Chicago for Strome and a pick)

Oilers are starving for quality wingers, it doesn’t make sense to add Strome when Yamamoto has shown great chemistry with Draisaitl and you already have the option to run 3 good centres (McDavid - Draisaitl - RNH) or give McLeod a shot building on last year.

Fair value trade though, both have similar value.

Not bad on value at all for what they bring on ice, with Yamo a better tenacious forechecker, and Strome showing a longer record of decent offense (last season aside, like Yamo), and the C position versatility.

My issue is the cap hit difference: 3 mil with ARB rights next season for Strome, whereas Yamo has no ARB rights right now. I'd expect there will be a 2 year deal at 2mil or under, or a 3 year deal at 2.5 mil or under. Yamo's likely cap situation is way better for the Oil as Nurse's big contract kicks in, and Puljujarvi needs a new deal next season. So for that reason, best for the Oil to keep Yamo.

he had a really good 19-20 but fell back immensely in a larger role in 20-21. im not too worried.

Yamo was still the same player but didnt capitalize on goals and didnt have Nuge on the LW this time but rather a 13th forward most times. Edmonton is so tight against the cap in 22-23 that they need Yamamoto's low Cap and to exploit him a bit with a show me contract. Strome's 3 million cap hit is double what yamamoto will get paid.

Eh, maybe but also maybe not. Depends on how they play.

Really? A trade that doesn't help either team is a "good" trade?

I mean I guess he had to be the second best player on the line without Nuge on the wing, with usually Kahun instead. He was able to be the unnoticed third player in 2019-20. But his toi went down compared to his hot streak 27 games the year before. So yeah, not really a larger role overall. He just went cold for the second half, essentially.

Seemed like he was more snakebitten than anything. Chances seemed to be there but just not going in.... I'd bet on the bounceback. As mentioned above, for salary reasons it makes more sense for the Oilers to keep Yam on a show me deal and hope he turns into a huge bargain.
