Since no other team is going to offer a better center replacement than Monahan (NY won't offer Zibanejad and LA won't offer Kopitar and neither Anaheim nor Minnesota has anyone of that stature), I think that your offer is good enough.

Only problem is Buffalo doesn’t want roster players like monahan. I guess they could flip him but I feel like they are trying to maximize return of young players/prospects

(A) That's highly debatable, and (B) Strome is 28 and has one year left on his contract, whereas Monahan is 26 and has two years to free agency.

I've never heard that Buffalo isn't interested in roster players. In fact, the oft-quoted statement by Kevyn Adams specifically mentioned roster players as equivalents of first-round draft picks. Without Eichel, that team is locked into the cellar in any event; without even a semi-facsimile replacement for him, they might not win 10 games this season, and I don't think that the Buffalo fanbase is going to like that.

Certainly a Relevant and Fair point. As it is right now the Sabres are beneath the salary floor for the first time in probably 15 years. That’s including the money that Eichel makes. The Sabres would need to add salary anyway, and a center of the caliber of Monahan would be a welcome addition. Another veteran player for the youngsters to learn from for a year or two before being traded at the trade deadline to a contender. Unless of course the Sabres shock the world and start winning.

To answer the original question, maybe cap would be extremely tight if we dont. We wont have the luxury of the Taxi Squad this year and none of our current players are waiver exempt either. As it stands we would still need to bring up Vladar from the minors. Welinski and Froese can likely pass through waivers just fine but I'm skeptical on everyone else. I also think we still sign Stone to a 750-800k contract. The nice thing though is Eichel will probably be starting on LTIR for the season how ever since we will technically be over the cap we can't accrue any cap space
