TOR sends out two mediocre players and a 7th rounder for a young promising forward who's already better than Engvall and a 4th plus Seattle retains? Not to mention SEA already has a major surplus of LD's and they're adding Dermott who's a fringe NHL LHD?
Help me out here... Why?
EDIT:
I get that Bastian isn't anything crazy, but he's a young physical bottom six forward who has room to grow.
SEA is building their pipeline and moving out a 4th rounder for things they don't need and to be honest, neither Dermott nor Engvall are worth a 4th.
Engvall = the sixth
Dermott = the fourth
the seventh = monkey point, in case either Maple Leaf is being overvalued
And Seattle is retaining 50% of Basitan's salary because TOR generously provided SEA with that 7th. Let's not forget to point out that Bastian makes $825K.
Some ppl saying this is bad for Seattle, which may be true, but also how does this benefit the Leafs? Dermott is currently a very decent 3rd line RD option (he's left but has played right). Liljigren is unproven and I'd take Dermott over Carrick any day. I'm down to drop Engvall but Bastian seems like more of what Dubas acquired a ton of this summer - middle six possible upside possible dud players
