This is exactly why it is a lose-lose to tender an OS. Massive overpay but the Habs are utterly screwed if they don't match. Plus the revenge that will happen.

Love the trolling to boot. Hope you all enjoy the last OS we ever see as a result tho.

An expensive contract. It's a Gamble. They like the potential - he is only 21 and would play with people of the same nationality and that would share a language. Might improve his hockey to play with Carolina.

But too expensive to keep in mtl.
& are they going to force Gardiner to get back surgery? Last we head he didn't want to get surgery and wanted to rehab through it and play naturally. Kinda weird ... The back surgery would only require a few weeks of LTIR according to reports. So they will have to make cap space one month into the season. I guess more trades afterwards to unload salary?

Well this is really bad for Montréal. This season is fine enough, since there’s not a problem until Byron gets back, where we might need to waive a few people. Now since he has a $6.1 million QO next year, the habs are so screwed cap wise. They need to sign Suzuki and Kotkaniemi for likely $13 million or so combined, with only Ben Chiarot’s contract coming off the books.

But obviously given that the offer sheet happened, it’s a no-brainer to match it for the habs. It’s just unfortunate that our team will be messed up so much because of Bergevin’s naïveté in thinking that the Canes wouldn’t match Aho’s offer sheet.

For Jesperi, this is phenomenal. He’ll likely end up making $7.5 million more or so than he would have over the next 2 years.

As an habs fan I think that the Drouin/Sergachev trade was Berg worst trade but that's a mistake, the offersheet was is stupidest move. I could smell the payback from 867 miles away (which is the distance between Montreal and Raleigh lol)

Habs in a hard spot. You lose KK you have no center depth. Is Suzuki a 1C right now? (Think he's a 2C who will be 1C soon) then after that you have nothing. There are some Centers on block. I think the Stromes and eichel. And what the value will be

I do think though we may see some more offer sheets down the road, especially if the team of the targeted RFA is strapped.

Suzuki is a 1C in everything other than face off ability, although he was going to be our 1C this year no matter what.
