Heck no! Caufield is one of the most overrated players of the decade. Why do people think he is so good / so valuable with such a small sample size? He's nowhere close to Eichel's value alone yet everyone wants to pretend otherwise. The trade in this package might be more on the expensive side, but there is absolutely no chance your counter is fair or anywhere close to it.

This he’s currently insanely overrated. If he has a great sophomore season I’ll say it’s just. But at this point I haven’t seen enough.

Didn’t heard that often. Caufield is an insane producer since his early age. He had an awesome U18 tournament and was one of the best (if not the best) in the USDP. He showed that he could produce against older guys in Wisconsin. Moreover, he showed that he could already produce at a good rate at the NHL level. His progression is really good.
Eichel’s value drop a lot since he asked for a trade. When a player needs to change agent to get the hell out of BUF, the value clearly drops a ton.

uh waht, are you kidding me

As a rookie with little experience he was 2nd in habs playoffs scoring behind Suzuki for their cup run.

This is not overatted this is hype because he'S going to be a minimum a 1rst line winger, if not a superstar.

The habs playoff scoring was also very low and balanced. 12 points in 20 games is fine for a rookie, but 3 goals were tap ins and 8 points were assists. If nothing else, small sample sizes on a team where everything was gelling at the right time.

I have to plug my ears when listening to habs fans talk about caufield because its so absurdly optimistic. Superstar? cmon... I think he will be a good winger somewhere in the Kyle Connor range at a peak, but cmon now, is rookie Kyle Connor and a first getting Eichel?

He has had a few tap in goals, been at the right place at the right time, and was part of the only habs playoff line that was offensively focused. He had good bursts, but he isn't half as good as the habs fanbase or media portrays him.

I remain strong on my stance that he's the most overrated player since Yakupov.

3 goals were tap in

So tell me more that you didn't watch the playoffs okay xD (one was a tap in, one one timer and 2 beauty)
Yeah you're just hating the habs that's fine, don't care about a team who might loose petterson due to your horrible gm

(oh and compare Caufield with Yakupov is just a joke, like if it's that case your hype for Poldkozin is the same as Stepan back in 1999 if i used your logic)

and saying that 12 points in 20 games for a rookie is okay, dude he didn't have a full season under his belt and putting that points (and key points and goals) against really good teams in playoffs is okay, wtf is wrong with you

This post involves the Canes and the Habs. I don't see anywhere that the Canucks are involved? I also don't see any reason to declare "habs hater". I think the habs fanbase is on a high horse after the playoffs and needs a reality check, yes. But a dose of reality isn't a dose of hate.

Look, the guy is being hyped as if he is a franchise defining player and I've seen some takes that see him as a regular 40 goal scorer / frequent rocket winner. If that's not jumping the gun, I don't know what is.
I will stick with my more realistic comparable of Mike Hoffman to Kyle Connor (Still solid 2nd line scoring wingers (mostly PP specialists)) than dare put him on the same plane of trade value as Eichel or any other actual superstar.

16 points in 18 games for rookie d man Quintin Hughes. He isn’t even a rookie. He’s good but quite overrated. Closer to 0.5PPG than 1PPG. Caufield isn’t proven enough. It’s understandable that you’re biased, every team is with their players.

Yeah, I think that's also plausible.

Still, is Chicago trading Debrincat for Cole and a first? Heck no. Is Buffalo trading Eichel for Debrincat and a first? again, heck no.

I think you are pretty much on the money with the trade value here, and pretty much anyone not sporting Habs colors will agree with you. I just can't help but be blown away with how far the Caufield overhype has gotten. It's nuts.

Suzuki-Caufield is a pretty good duo but people are acting like they are gonna make a generational line. Suzuki is great but to be honest, he’s slightly overrated. Caufield is great but super overrated.

Habs fans get offended when I compare him to Hoffman, Connor and heck even Debrincat. But they also forget that these are great players. They just thrive in limited situations and are usually powerplay merchants. They shouldn't be offended by comparing him to these guys, but they do because they've crafted a fantasy that he is going to be a franchise level player.

This is where my Yakupov comment usually gets taken out of context. The expectations are through the roof on both players, and I think not that Cole will bust, but that the level of overhype will be superseded by disappointment because the dose of hype was too large and out of place from the beginning.

I do not want to get into a discussion of who is over rated or not, but I will agree that including Caufield is not in MTL best interest if they want to improve.
OK they lost Kotkaniemi so include his assets into this trade, make it MTL 2022 1st, drop Caufield and Byron them with Drouin.
Buffalo gets two first this year for a total of 4, and additional 3rd round pick this year, two projects Lehkonen, and Drouin as well as a future prospect Mysak.
While there are not any marque prospects there is enough to consider the trade.
Buffalo fans will be disappointed, but if Drouin and Lehkonen can reproduce their best years in Buffalo, it would soften the blow.
