Ironic, i offer sheet Necas and put him as a C; get blasted by canes fans... then a canes fan signs Necas for more money and proceeds to put him as a C? I have no words lol

Plus, Kotkaniemi cannot sign for 3.4mil next season... his starting point for a Qualifying Offer will need to be 6.1+ so good luck with that

we just paid him 6.1 for 1 year…i think he’ll be ok with taking 3.4 for a couple years

I don't think you understand how RFA's and QO's work...

yes his QO has to be for 6.1 but he can sign for less can he not?…obvi no one is gonna sign him for 6.1 so why not stay w the canes (the team who just paid you very handsomely for one year)

If the Canes don’t qualify him he becomes an unrestricted free agent and can hit the open market. Why would he show loyalty to a team that only offered him too much money to make a point against his organization instead of literally anywhere he feels like

This is awfully presumptuous. There’s literally no reason for him to not sign his 6.1mil QO. Hockey’s a business and he’s an elite athlete looking to make money, not save the Canes 3mil for the honour of playing on their 3rd line

Just to keep his rights next year, the canes will be forced to extend a 6.405 millions qualifying offer. So as paying a 30 points guy this amount of money is completely insane, they will most likely release him and let him check the market, so basically they are paying a first pick and a 3rd pick for a rental player.

He knows that he won't make more than 5M anywhere...the 3.4 is too low to sign but a 4-5 year around the 4-5M mark is fine to believe in as I would take 30M over 6 years if I were him

No, he cannot sign for less on his next deal if he wants to keep his RFA status. So like the others mentioned, if Carolina does not want to give him the 6.1+ QO after the 2021-22 season, he is essentially going to the open market

Imagine being in a position to manage a professional sports team and your decisions are purely based out of spite and in response to another GM's actions instead of looking out for your own best interests and the interests of the organization paying you. I feel bad for canes fans, most of them haven't a clue

Canes can sign him from any amount for any year. 6.1m is only if the QO him which they won't. (newsflash no one will offer him 6.1 next year unless he breaks out) he will sign with canes at a lower aav most likely

Realistically any player can do that, but there's a reason why it almost NEVER happens. Players and their agents aren't dumb, they won't willingly give up their RFA status because a team tells them to. You're bonkers if you think that's going to happen here

Ok so you're saying that he'll turn down his RFA status to become a UFA and he'll choose to sign back with carolina for less money? Lol keep dreaming

He will have a new contract before Free agency. The canes and KK have already talked about this during the OS negotiations per EF reports (about it not acutally negotiating a contract yet)
