I like the trade and the lineup, this would be a very competitive roster.

OK MTL matches Carolina, then sends Kotkaniemi, Drouin and 2nd to Buffalo for Monahan?
Then Karmanos has to deal with the head ache of signing Kotkaniemi next year.
Drouin is included to cut the cap.

They can't match since that would put them over the 10% offseason limit. KK is probably going to be a Cane next year

They may need to make a Butcher trade with Drouin.
Butcher's salary is commensurate with his production, yet he was traded with a fifth to Buffalo.
I think it would take at least a 2nd to move Drouin and maybe more if all of the NHL GM's are patient as they know Bergevin is under the gun.
So I could see a Monahan trade to Montreal if they do not match the offer sheet.
Other's have posted Lehkonen, 2022 first and more for Monahan.
That would give Buffalo 4 first this year.
If I were the GM and I had Lehkonen, I would look to move Olofsson and play Artturi in Victor's spot to try to boost his stats before the TDL.
Any way, it is all for fun.

No what I'm saying is Montreal can't currently match the offer sheet. KK is by all considerations a member of the Hurricanes right now unless Montreal can move some cap out before hand (they can not currently trade KK or the compensation picks either)

I am certainly not disagreeing with you.
I guess I was unclear.
I should have said Bergevin has two options.
First option, trade Drouin for anything, if needed add an asset to get him off of the roster, then he needs to do that so he has cap space for Kotkaniemi.
Second option, let Kotkaniemi walk then trade for Monahan.
My fourth line first word is "So" it should have been an "Or".
