Thinks about what exactly? Pay a fortune to move a player from a positional weakness to fill a position that is already strong. Zero sense to that trade

adding a guy who was on a 40+ goal pace if this were the regular season, to play with Draisaitl or McDavid

They have plenty of options on who to play with those two but nobody proven to split the starts with smith. Goaltending is the last position can move but not replace and in this instance it’s even worse because replacing the salary with a forward so to go out and get a guy to split the starts requires another roster player to be moved out.

I think it will take more moves than that to tank down the bottom 10. You'd probably have to weaken RW, D, rest Price alot and hope that Allen regresses to his 2017-19 form.

I mean yeah Toffoli is a very good player but you also have to consider fit and need. Maybe if all of this went down before EDM added Hyman and extended RNH they’d consider. But at this point their top 6 is loaded and there’s no reason to give up a first and a very good prospect to strengthen their biggest strength. They’re also betting on Kosk to bounce back at this point and I don’t think it makes them better to go with a Smith Stalock duo.
