That's fine they still match and pay to move money out you do realize you can go 10% over the cap in the offseason

who are the canucks gonna move out tho? its not like they have players making 2-3 in their bottom 6 that are expendable. If anything its worth the risk for montreal

Poolman. It's not worth the risk when teams come back with an OS on Montreal all it does is burn Bridges there is not a world where Van doesn't match an OS to Pettersson

I like when other teams fans think they know what is best for other teams . That explains this dumb proposal /

and if it was the difference between keeping Pettersson and losing him he would get traded? Your right they aren't but they just lost there #2 C because of it, all it does is burn another bridge if they keep OS players teams won't trade with them not only that Pettersson has to sign the OS and i am guessing his agent would tell him not to so Hughes and Pettersson can both get bigger contracts, I get you want to live in fantasy land with all the chaos but Matthews has a better Chance going back to Arizona this year then Van not matching any Pettersson OS

that seems like a fan motivated response, NHL players are money motivated , they want to get paid and thats reasonable. If other teams see montreal doing it , it might motivate other teams to start offer sheeting. Its a common norm in the NBA and in terms of star movement the league is way more interesting. I applaud montreal for having the balls to do it

But it's not fan motivated response both Hughes and Pettersson are represented by the same agent, it's in the agents best interest to spilt the 18mill between pettersson and hughes therefor making more money himself, other teams won't start doing it, like i said it just bit MTL in the ass, they either have to overpay for there 2nd line center or use assets to acquire a new one

KK was never a 2C, im again not high on KK and it would be smart for Montreal to let him go. i dont think he will be more than a fringe second liner. Getting a 1st for him is fairly good asset management imo. why would it be in either of Hughes/Pettersson to split the money rather than get what they are worth. doesnt make any sense

KK right now is their 2C is the issue Jake Evans goes up to 2C if KK leaves, getting a late 1st for a guy you drafted 3ova is not good asset management at all, As for the Pettey/Huggy splitting it lets say both players get 9mill on a 2 year deal that's more then fair for both players, The agent tells them to take because that would be above market value on a bridge, instead of one player taking up 18mill and the agent only getting 5% of the 18mill the agent would be getting 10% of the 18mill if they spilt, working for the agent and players as the players get more then market value on a bridge and the agent takes home more money

i agree their centres are garbage even with KK, but they messed up taking him in general so getting a 1st for him is decent imo im just not high on him at all. But why would pettersson take less money so his agent can get paid more? makes no sense

He wouldn't be is the issue 2x9 is more the over Market value, Pettey signing an OS doesn't make sense for him either he has to move across the content to go to a team that is heading in the wrong direction i have issues seeing mtl in the playoffs this year, while leaving all his friends and child hood team behind, for an extra mill, Benning has already said we will match any OS coming pettersson way i don't see how that is hard for you to see, if MTL needs petty that bad put in an OS of 20+ mill that would be the only way we can't match

That's what i am saying lmao 9x2 is a worse case seniro you are trying to sit here and say we Can't match do to cap, that leaves 7+ mill for hughes to be re-signed on a bridge deal, Both players are more then likely signing bridge deals, Point just signed a 9.5x8 that's more then a fair enough value for pettersson as point as of today is the better player, this whole idea of OS pettersson is dumb Van matches it all it does is burn a bridge

you cant match a 11.5-12 OS without brutally messing up your cap within the next 2 years

and it doesn't brutally mess MTL's cap? and no it really doesn't If pettersson and hughes both use 100% of the 18mill we have this offseason van will still have around 3mill+ give or take, in extra cap space, Boeser will have a raise only be around 1.5 mill which the 3mill+ is taking in account for leaving about 1.5 for a horvat and miller raise the season after that and thats without the cap going up and a 22 man roster so in other words no they will be fine either way

Horvat and Miller are both gonna get around 8M lmfao, thats like a 3M raise individually, boeser is getting at least a 2M raise, and if you bridge hughes at 6.5 hes getting a 4-5M raise
