if Bergeron retires next season

Created by: hairyberry

Description
Difficult decisions will need to be made if Bergeron calls it quits. Best decision is probably to enter a retool and hope we come out the other side soon enough to not waste Mcavoy and Pasta's primes. (Note: Pasta gets a matching 9.5m x 8yrs extension). I'm personally hopeful that Eichel will sign in FA when is deal is up and end our retool.

that’s the only way he’ll be able to get off L1.

Craig smith is pretty good, far better than that return.

If it were up to me, I'd consider that Pens' trade. Unfortunately, Hextall made it well known he's no longer moving the Pens' 1st and 2nd picks. The Pens aren't rebuilding, but they're done moving significant futures to keep the team going.

Islanders hang up and laugh, one of their best young guys, and a prospect who not long ago wouldve gone in the first round, plus a 1st 2nd and 3rd for an ageing marchand. I know how good he still is, but they're trading away two future great players for him? and a 1st? sorry but no

EIchel is a UFA in 5 years. If your "retool" needs to be "ended" in 5 years, its far more than a retool.

This is a steal for marchand. What are you talking about?

If the Bruins offered to do this deal right now, it would make sense. This is a year from now, who knows how much longer Marchand will play at an elite level.

i’d do that for marchand. if we win a cup with him who cares what we gave up? he’s better than either of those players will most likely ever be.

Maybe I should've worded that differently, I meant "put us over the hump from just making the playoffs to being contenders again". His contract is also up in 4 years from the perspective of this retool, which would begin in the 2022-2023 season.

Seems like not everyone agrees with you, but even if it's not the Islanders, someone will give that kind of package up for 3 years of Marchand at $6m. He's not showing any signs of slowing down.

Yeah I was trying to not wear my Bruins goggles but maybe you're right. He's in his 30s though, he could drop off a bit next season (especially production-wise without Krejci) and be worth less a year from now.

Marchand will be turning 35 next year, Isles would be crazy to trade their best prospect entering his prime years, a wildcard to be a great top center and all those picks, it would not be a steal.
