Gibson hasn't been elite since 2018 and Getzlaf has 1 foot in the grave. No thanks!

Value-wise I think the ANA deal is fair, but the issue is Getz elected to remain with ANA with a full NMC. Could he ultimately waive? Maybe, but that would be more of a deadline deal.

I said it would be a trade deadline move in the trade. I think he could just sign back with Anaheim in next offseason or keep trying to chase a cup

JG has had zero D in front of him. Lots of G’s get hung out to dry too often and then fans call the G out.

It's a massive, massive overpay. Gibson's not an upgrade on Koskinen and Getzlaf has very little value at this point in his career.

NOBODY should be trading for John Gibson! He's terrible -- his 2.98 GAA and 0.903 save % last year was MILES worse than Koskinen's 3.17 GAA and 0.899 save %! And especially for that package -- future All-Stars Tyler Benson and Oliver Rodrigue, plus guaranteed Calder-Cup winner Ralph "The Sled" Lavoie!! Wow!!! What an overpay!!!!

No, just let us continue to suffer with John Gibson between the pipes for another 6 years. Thanks for thinking of us, though.

that's a bad take. Koskinen was rlly bad last yr and Gibson is on a terrible team but was still better. getzlaf was almost traded for a 1st at last years deadline

And Koskinen has?? At 5v5 over the past 2 years:

Shots-Against/60 (Save Percentage)
Koskinen: 32.34 (.915)
Gibson: 31.07 (.916)

HDSA/60 (Save Percentage)
Gibson: 8.78 (.814)
Koskinen: 8.50 (.833)

Similar action, similar results. Why all the other assets??

Going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Gibson, while he's taken a dip, is still a massive upgrade.

If you look at the stats in the link you'd know that Gibson has faced a similar number of shots and high-danger shots with similar results to Koskinen over the past 2 years.

And that includes a stretch at the beginning of this past season where Koskinen was asked to play 12 games in 24 days while travelling thousands of miles through 4 time zones, something that Gibson wasn't asked to do. Without that, Koskinen's play was about average, .910 all situations (and better than Gibson's .903).

Taken a dip? He hasn't been good since 2018. That's a loooong dip.

And Edmonton's defense hasn't been much better. You know what though? Edmonton's had better goaltending.

Gibson's not a "massive upgrade" and I've proved it. You can go on believing your narrative but it doesn't change the facts.

How could he? The Ducks' defense is very bad (bottom 5 in the league) and Lindholm and Manson (arguably the two best defensive D-men on the Ducks) were injured for large parts of last season and for a bit in 19/20 as well. Apart from that there has been a certain trend when it comes to playing Gibson. What the coaches do is play Gibson all the time the first third of the season without giving him a break. His stats in that time are good. But then his game falls off and he isn't as good as before because he can't handle playing all the time. He doesn't really play that much for a couple of weeks (in 20/21 that was also because of an injury) and his confidence is basically 0. The rest of the season he's a below average goalie. If you actually give him a break (basically just playing the backup at a normal rate) and if you have a good team in front of him he's a Top 10 / Top 15 goalie in the league.

Better defense than the Ducks, that's for sure.

Now read the rest of the comments and the links I posted. Koskinen has actually faced more shots and yet performs similarly.

It's been better than the Ducks'. It seems you don't watch the Ducks that often if you think the Oilers' D isn't much better. The Oilers' defense isn't great but it's definitely been quite a bit better than the Ducks'. And the Ducks were without 2 of their Top 4 Defensemen for a long time this season. I would rank Edmonton's defense between 16-22 leaguewide. The Ducks defense is bottom 5 (even with everyone healthy).

I don't care how you'd grade anything. The facts are that Koskinen faced more shots than Gibson and a similar number of high danger shots. Look it up.

Wrong.

Gibson's GSAA = .50
Koskinen's GSAA = -8.86

You don't have to care. But thinking that the Oilers' defense isn't much better than the Ducks' is just wrong.
