I think it's fair for both clubs.

Hickey is the offset for giving up Bellows. Clears some cap for us to fit Tarasenko, they can bury half of Hickey's money this year and it comes off completely for next season, and they still control Bellows at reasonable cost.

I think it's fair for both clubs.

Hickey is the offset for giving up Bellows. Clears some cap for us to fit Tarasenko, they can bury half of Hickey's money this year and it comes off completely for next season, and they still control Bellows at reasonable cost.

He's been on a deal that pays him $4,650,000 and he was producing about .75pts/game. A $350,000 raise on a deal when he's still productive seems like a typical NHL contract. If we get him for less, that's great, but what's his incentive to sign for less than market rate on his last chance to cash in?

Its not less than market rate. Hes already started declining which is usuall at this age for players that play a heavy style of hockey like he does. I wouldnt be opposed to giving him 5 million, but on a 1 year prove it deal. To show that either he had a badly timed down year, or that he actually is starting to regress. A 4 year deal should be paying him ~4 million per.
