I really like Niku but I just don't see the fit so I'd strongly consider this but would ultimately try to counter for the Leafs 4th rounder instead (as we don't have a 4th round pick this year)

Either that or Niku + your 3rd round pick back for your 2nd round pick. Anyhow, I'd see if I could upgrade the pick somehow but there likely is a trade to be made there.

If Sami re-grows his glorious flow, then I think the pick could be upgraded to a 2023 5th.

Just a guess but I think Maurice still holds the blowup with Huddy against Niku, he really does need a change of scenery but could also see no teams having any interest in him, smallish puck moving LHD are a dime a dozen in the league now.

I didn't know he had a blowup with Huddy. I remember the beat reporters saying that Niku was always the first one off the ice (amid appropriate puzzled looks from coaches) when he was fighting for a roster spot, while others would stay and work on their game.
