That would be matched instantly. The entire point would be to overpay for the player to give the team with his rights an altimatum. Also, Necas has arbitration rights and will likely just go there so he's ineligible to be offersheeted

Necas isn’t a center. Also, you can kiss Caufield goodbye

Necas was drafted as a C and will likely move across in the 2022-23 season

That's wrong, because Trocheck will be a free agent.... so no. He'll move over

While I kind of want to see this as it's fun, it won't do what you want. The thing is Necas is actually worth a much bigger deal than KK

So what was the point of OS KK? He’s a center, why lose winger depth when you can have your centers play centers and your wingers play on the wing?

You’ll need to trade someone. You can’t operate with only 20 players on the roster, and Caufield, Suzuki, and Romanov’s performance bonuses will add up to more than $770K.

Necas is a center... that's why he was drafted as a C... they did this with Aho. He played his first 2 seasons at LW. They're going to do it with Necas. They've said that from the day he arrived in Charlotte.

Hurricanes will match. They will have a projected cap space of 24.9M. They will only have to sign Kotkaniemi (if they don’t match), Niederreiter, Trocheck, Necas, Bear, and DeAngelo that may take big money. They will definitely have enough to match a 6.5M offer sheet.

I really don't know why Habs fans are so pissed with the KK offer sheet. Certainly the Canes could have spend 6.1m better on a UFA and kept their two picks, since KK will likely be eligible to be a UFA next summer. This season the Habs should be able to sign two centre easily for 2m each as good as KK, and they will still have those two picks.
Canes didn't win IMO, Habs didn't lose. KK was the only winner getting 6.1m for some reason this season.

Eh I mean I like Bear but haven’t even seen how he does with the canes yet. Necas is a game breaker with all star level talent if he continues developing and Bear will likely be a good second pair d which is much more replaceable. Necas would be an immediate match at this offer sheet. Bear we would have to think about depending on the number but it all depends on how this season goes.

I doubt Necas gets to the point of being eligible but if he did why wouldn’t you make it an OS that actually makes the canes think for a second? This is just as pointless as the Aho one and it’ll only piss the front office off and make them replicate an actual well executed OS on caufield the following year which will hurt the Habs. I guess since you guys don’t have similar cap flexibility to offer a higher OS that’s why you didn’t do it - but that’s the whole point, why even bother if you can’t make it a smart OS?

I’m assuming that’s just a general question, and not in response to what I was saying in the post you quoted.

It ain’t over till it’s over.
But in the alternate universe where the habs don’t match, Carolina would probably be my 2nd favourite team.
