De Hann to Islanders Strome to MTL and Lindholm to Chicago

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 1, 2021
Published: Sep. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Convoluted, but also beautiful.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
De Hann is still a good 2nd pair LD and this pick is late. Islanders can afford to make this move.
NYI
  1. De Haan, Calvin
  2. Shaw, Andrew
Additional Details:
Since the islanders are already using off-season LTIR, Shaw can allow them to exceed the cap by his cap hit.

If you are confused about why Shaw allows the islanders to get De Hann without sending cap back then ask in the comments but the short explanation is

Islanders are using off-season LTIR with Boychuck (6 mil) they have about 2 mil of that space left unused.

They can acquire and put Shaw on LTIR (Boychuck 6 AAV + Shaw’s 3.9 = 9.9 AAV)

Acquiring De Hann would only cost them 650k on their existing relief pool. That cap space goes away at the seasons start.
2.
CHI
Flips offer-sheet compensation of KK to Chicago for Strome.
    MTL
    1. Strome, Dylan
    Additional Details:
Purely hypothetical, but see my recent post about how KK being offersheeted make me believe that is a comparable for a Strome deal.
    3.
    CHI
    1. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
    2. 2022 3rd round pick (CAR)
    CAR
      Prior trade.
      4.
      CHI
      1. Lindholm, Hampus
      Additional Details:
      Extension
      ANA
      1. Beaudin, Nicolas
      2. Johnson, Reese
      3. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
      4. 2022 2nd round pick (COL)
      5. 2022 3rd round pick (CAR)
      Additional Details:
Comparable to the Seth Jones deal.

If it's a higher cap hit...he would have either A.) Earned it or B.) You can let him walk. If Drouin doesn't make a monster comeback...he's a cap dump. At least if Strome stinks...you just let him walk.

      MTL is good with Drouin
Fans might not be but they can suck it
GM is , His new Coach who coached him in Junior to a Memorial Cup is and so it his team
They're all happy with Drouin because without him our middle of the league power play is bottom of the league

He has his faults but come PP time he's consistent as the day is long
Drouin scored more in 2 years on PP then Strome in his career
That has value to a team like MTL even if he is 1-2m over paid
      Why ?
As last year showed no one else can fill that role
If they could maybe we'd have made the finals more competitive

Drouin gets crapped on because of his contract like you said
Take it away and everyone loves him

KK and Strome will face these situations
      KK because of the OS
Strome because CHI has no choice but to pay
MTL if they acquired him would have no choice but to pay

We already got Suzuki to worry about

Chicago does have a choice, either to trade Strome or not sign him and his numbers at arbitration at this point aren't going to award him a $6M contract. Players don't want to use arbitration unless they want to burn the house down with their current team and then they are damaged goods and end up getting traded. Zadarov for the Hawks is a good example and didn't work out in his favor.

It's all dependent on Toews and what condition he's in to come back. As a Hawks fan, I would not do the swap all by itself. The 30th pick in the draft isn't exciting. Having center depth for a playoff run is exciting. With that said...if Stan could somehow convince ANA into a 3-way trade, Then yes I would. Hampus would indeed be a VERY nice piece to have. This would introduct another problem next year with the cap, but Hampus is indeed a very good player.

As a side note...I think ANA would actually rather have Vlasic. The 6'6" defensive Dman next to Drysdale would be perfect.

I think a three way makes sense or a direct trade with Anaheim and save on the picks. Strome + Beaudin or Nylander + a 3rd is plenty to pry a rental in Lindholm. He's not Jones or Hamilton type of value in the market. He's very good but he's never in the discussion for the top 10 or even 20 d men in the league.

I actually agree with you about MTL keeping Drouin. That's the best place for him. My comments were more around the options. IF hypothetically Drouin stinks...you're stuck. IF hypothetically he's great...then his $5.5M cap hit will be justified. Now translate that to Strome at the Hawks. If Strome's cap hit increases to $5.5M...great he would have earned it. IF Strome's cap hit for some reason jumps to that amount, but you didn't think he earned it. Then you don't need to worry about it. Let him walk and spend the $5.5M in "better ways". That's all.

He does. It's different in the summer than it is during the season. Boychuck and Seabs will LTIR in the summer. If you take someone into the season and then LTIR it's different.

I think Strome + Beaudin as a base for Lindholm makes sense, but with the D market being so crazy right now I think ANA wants a first round pick plus other assets in the deal for Lindholm with an extension.

The center market isn't too shabby either, but again, Lindholm isn't Jones or Hamilton or even Reilly (who might get traded).

O Well i misunderstood the context of your point my bad
I agree with what you're saying in regards to Strome being your Drouin more or less

You guys need the Goal Scoring Strome and have Toews to handle bulk faceoffs to make up for his Faceoff issues
We dont really have that and would need any center taking over to be able to handle themselves for 900-1100 faceoffs at 50%+ a year

If we still had Danault this becomes a little less far fetched

Right now is a great time to trade a Center, in any case I hope the hawks maximize on their center depth with a move.

That’s debatable, KK is a couple years younger than Strome but that’s the only place he has him beat. Strome has a better Cap hit, drives offense much better, and has a better history of production. Not sure about faceoffs, but I don’t rate them extremely highly in any case.

AZ isn't trading away Dvorak for a 1st and 3rd. AZ needs MORE Dvorak's not less. He's on a really good contract and that's a premium to budget teams like AZ. Romanov would be required for Dvorak.

The reported ask for Dvorak was already mentioned as the same as what Kuemper got (a 1st and a quality prospect), which is far better value than giving up a 1st and a 3rd for Strome.

Romanov would not be included for Dvorak. It's likely around a 1st + Norlinder + mid round pick. Which is a way better deal than going after Strome.

Im a habs Fans and i think its pretty much on par
KK has value dont get me wrong but he's no better a Center then Strome
But Strome is a MUCH Superior Winger then KK by a country mile

      KK only gets a 1st and a 3rd on OS's
Strome gets a 1st in most situations even if they are conditional
I dont think anyone expected KK to get that offer , even i didnt
But that said i wouldnt have been alright giving him up without an over pay

I think if you can find a deal with TBL to bring Killorn on in a package for Strome that you could get that 1st and 3rd if not more
They're in Cap hell and you offer them a Strome and the cap to re-sign him i think they'll happily pay
Plus there's upside in having Killorn-Johnson back together to so its not like you're taking a cap dump just exploiting TBL cap situation

Their paths are more alike that people think. Yes, the younger player is perceived to have a higher upside. That just comes with the territory. Projections are always rosie. Both #3 OA picks. Both approx. 6'2" 200 lbs. and neither are very speedy.
KK was a ppg AHLer. KK's 1st 115 games got him 42 points

Their paths are more alike that people think. Yes, the younger player is perceived to have a higher upside. That just comes with the territory. Projections are always rosie. Both #3 OA picks. Both approx. 6'2" 200 lbs. and neither are very speedy.

I agree Strome and KK are very similar... it's odd that I'm not particularly interested in paying a 1st and 3rd for Strome, yet I've been debating with myself over matching the KK offersheet every day since it's come out... even though KK will cost $6.1M and Strome makes $3M.

The reason I'm on the fence over Strome isn't because it's not fair value, it totally is, but I'd rather see MTL just give guys like Drouin, Evans, and Poehling a chance while signing Bozak as a contingency. I believe one of those 3 players will suprise as a top 6 C so I'm willing to take the chance and keep the picks.

This is a reasonable mindset to have, it also opens up the door for a future move (for strome or otherwise) if you don’t get the center development that you need out of those guys.

Elliotte Friedman already reported that the cost that Arizona is looking for is the same as what they got for Kuemper being a 1st and a decent prospect/young NHL player. A 1st and a 3rd isn't far off that, maybe add a smaller piece to it, but it's still close

Why would TB consider trading Killorn? They're going for 3 no chance the give up Killorn!!!!!

      Would you look at that? A 1st and a 2nd for Dvorak. Guess a 1st and a 3rd wasn't too far off 🤷🏻‍♂️
