No UFA - future outlook

Created by: Tintin
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 1, 2021
Published: Sep. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
While putting this together you really get to know how much organizational forward depth there is. That's why I decided to move Zacha, Wood and Boqvist for picks. Felt like they were the most expendable.

Haha, the oldest forwards on this team would be McLeod, Sharangovich and Kuokkanen, clocking in at the ripe old age of 25. Needless to say there's gotta be a few UFA signings when we actually get to puck drop in 2023 but, my god, this team looks really really good.

If anything, there are 10 RFAs in 2024 with this setup (including Holtz, Mercer and Foote) meaning there could be a significant cap crunch at that time.

Can't see why the Kings would want Zacha with their center depth, especially for a 1st.

You're not getting a 1st for Zacha. Unless it's a late 1st.

Zacha is a winger now
In the games he played wing, he was over a point per game (18 in 17)

I would rather keep Zacha and Wood
I also think we keep Severson

Holtz-Hughes-Mercer
Zacha-Nico-Bratt
Foote-Kuok-Yegor
Wood-McLeod-Stillman

Hughes-Dougie
Bahl-Ty
Mukh-Sevo

I think the Kings have too many players to handle after aquiring Danault and Arvidsson, within the next two seasons we expect: Arvidsson, Kempe, Iafallo, Turcotte, Vilardi, Kaliyev, Kupari, Tkachyov, Thomas, Simontaival, ****emo, and Madden to be competing for who plays wing on the top 9.

Bratt -- Hischier -- Holtz
Foote -- Hughes -- Sharangovich
Kuokkanen -- Mercer -- Gritsyuk
Wood -- Salminen -- Stillman

Bahl - Hamilton
Smith - Severson
Mukhamadullin - Hughes

Bench: McLeod, Thompson, Siegenthaler

I picked the Kings cus I felt like this is the kinda move they could be making in a few years time when the rebuild is definitely over and they are contending regularly again. But this Zacha trade could really have been to any team in the league.
Admittedly, I could've spent some more time looking at forward prospect pipelines before sending him to the Kings. I do think a mid to late 1st is fair value for him.
And like Devil1122 said, Zacha is a winger now and most likely will play as one the rest of his NHL career.

Thanks! Daws and Schmid are very close in quality and potential from what I've read / heard. Daws struggled in German league this year though while Schmid was awarded best goalie in the USHL so I decided on having Schmid as the backup.
For next season I think Schmid and Daws will compete with each other for the 2nd spot in the AHL, 1st spot initially going to Wedgewood.
