Looking at his production to date, which is what you're suggesting, it's been pretty flat for the last two years in college.
There is no rush for the Oilers because there's not much at stake.
As a 6th round pick, the odds he plays even one full season worth of games in his career aren't that great.

I feel pretty confident that in two years, he will no longer be property of the Edmonton Oilers.
This might be a "draft and watch" scenario.
