A 2nd doesn't even cover the 7M+ in retention you're asking for.

Would car 1st be enough?

Not a bad option, but that retention over 3 years isn;t going to work out....

Why doesn;t MTL truly go for it and do something like:

Henrique C (with some retention, or a 3rd party taking some retention)
Josh Manson RD

for

Paul Byron
Lehkonen (Poehling and Perreault can platoon at 4LW)
MTL 1st
MTL 3rd
CAR 3rd
MTL 4th (MTL still would have 8 picks in 2022, one in each round)

Overall I think it makes the defense so much deeper and makes a respectable Center position of Suzuki-Henrique-Pacquette-Evans-Poehling

DEFENSE:

Edmundson-Petry
Chariot-Manson
Romanov-Savard
Kulak

Perhaps, but certainly no less than that.

Don't really feel like there's any desperation from the Ducks end to move Rico w/retention. I think there's a point where the Ducks just have to sit back and say "Alright, where are we at?".

You move Rico, and all of the sudden you're throwing guys like Zegras, Steel, Lundestrom, etc. to the wolves offensively.
You move Manson, and all of the sudden you're throwing Drysdale to the wolves defensively.

I'm all about re-couping assets, but I really feel like the time to capitalize on a player like Manson's value has come and gone, unfortunately. At this point, he's more benefitial to the Ducks IMO, to eat minutes defensively.

I mean, I guess I don't absolutely loathe the trade, because I'd like to add another 1st, but I have some issues with it. The issue I have is that selling Manson for less than a 1st doesn't make sense (Not saying that his value is huge, I just think if he's healthy, by the deadline someone is going to be willing to pay), and retaining on Rico to get a cap dump in Byron, Lehk (who doesn't really do much except dump one of the young guys out of the lineup), and a bunch of 3rds/4ths doesn't do it for me. Not saying the actual value that Anaheim is sending here is a ton more than they're getting back, but I just feel like there's more value in having the guys to shield the younger guys than there is in taking back dumps.

I see your point, it probably needs more there going to the ducks, but as stated I don't know their values. That said what would you propose, cuz I think Henrique would be a pretty great 2C for them.

Without retention, you might not even need to pay as much as a 2nd to get Henrique straight up. They might be happy just to get rid of his salary. When you add in retention AND a veteran cap dump to a team not ready to contend, it blows the deal.
