This will be easy to move when he demands a trade.

This reminds me of the Sam Bennett contract. Committing this much to Mittelstadt right now is pretty risky given that he has only had one decent season. However, if his growth this year is a sign of things to come, this could look like one of the best deals in the league by the end.

Good deal. Played pretty good under Granato.

It's only 2.5M for a guy that was at .53 PPG last season. Had 17 points in 28 games under Granato too. I don't really see how that's "committing this much". Seems pretty fair to me. Close to the Chytil deal. It's not like he's making 4.4M.

2.5M is a pretty easy contract to bury anyways.

I think this is an excellent contract for Buffalo. I had him at $2.5m/2 years versus 3...if he hits his stride this year this will look like a great contract.

Good on him for wanting to stay and see it through. Loyalty like that is scarce these days...

Good to see he was willing to sign a three-year deal. I hope that he is now on the upswing to fulfilling the promise everyone first saw in him.

Chytil is probably a better comparable, but I'm biased. I love love love Chytil.

It feels like the sabres are paying based on potential a little bit but since nobody wants to sign in Buffalo it'll be okay for them

Good deal, though he may be the Sabres 1c until Eichel saga is resolved

Solid deal. I was pretty low on him for a long time, but I really like the step he took last season.

Risky? Lol. The kid is 22. Making only 2.5 for 3 years. How is that risky?

Even if he regresses to 25-35 point pace, this deal will still be fine. If the extra ice time help him blossom, then it will be a steal.

Nice contract. Mittlestadt gets 7.5M in a low risk contract for him. Buffalo potentially gets a very team friendly contract.

Now this is who the Habs should be targeting for a KK replacement (who by the way should have had a similar bridge contract as the 2 players are equal) instead of the rumor of Dvorak or resigning Staal.

Oh and if anyone believes this is a slight over payment (first off you're crazy) don't forget he signed a 1 year QO before this. So that's a 4 year deal for $8.4 million. And he still will be a RFA, which is odd considering I thought 7 pro seasons gets you to UFA.

What a great contract. Mitts was finding his game under Granato and should continue to improve. He still has a great ceiling, would love to see him reach it!

Whats the risk? 2.5 million is not a lot for a forward beyond the fourth line and if worse comes to worse, buyouts before 25 are 1/3

He's a top breakout candidate for the upcoming season. 50+ points in definitely within reach, especially if Eichel is gone.

I'm surprised players aren't asking for far more money to stay in such a dumpster fire of an organization like the Sabres

It’s not as good as Jokiharju, given the comparables, but it’s far from a “bad” contract. If he continues to improve, he’ll likely outplay the value of the contract by Y3 if not sooner.

The question is whether it’ll be in Buffalo. Whether he gets traded or whether the Sabres will be in Buffalo. Who knows anymore.
