Hertl interview update

Created by: Mikker575
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 2, 2021
Published: Sep. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hertl gave an interview for one Czech newspaper like 2 days ago. He mentioned that he has no clue about SJS plans for upcoming seasons (if they want to do full rebuild or small retool etc..) and he is aware that he might not be in their future plans because of his high trade value and with only one more year left. He wants to compete for cup so I am pretty sure that he will get traded because SJS wont make playoff. He wants to compete so badly that he mentioned specifically Landeskogs contract as comparable for his potential upcoming contract, signing for less money with top conteder (I dont mean that he would want the same money, but that he would take a discount). Beside Colorado, he spoke about Boston (he would like to play with some Czechs for contending team). He also said that he will choose the team with respect to his family (he has almost 1 y.o. son - would prefer east coast beacuse of shorter flights to Europe, and they also enjoyed Cali weather) - Florida/Tampa might be an option if they make the money work. So if he wont be traded before TDL to any of the teams i mentioned above, I believe the trade will be without extension and he will try UFA market.

Would like to hear your opinion guys about teams that would fit his taste, i dont want to solve trade value because it will strongly depend on time of season, the other team, position of SJS (in terms of winning lottery), injuries and salary retention.

Florida could be interesting.

I don’t think he’s quite worth 8x7 though. Maybe 6x6.

Colorado will have the money to sign him next year, and he would be a great fit. Considering what they gave up for Kuemper, I'm not sure they can pull it off at the tdl. They could be a player in the off season though.

It's not the east coast,, but if he really wants a good combo of money, a place to raise a family, and a chance to compete for the foreseeable future, Denver is a pretty good option.

So you think Hertl is a middle 6 center, but that he is worth 6Mx6yr?

I really like his fit on COL and I think they have the assets to do it. Aside from Newhook/Byram I think all other prospects and picks would be on the table if the trade came with an extension

I think the sharks would really push for Newhook, we have basically no centers who have a high ceiling. It will be interesting to see how the trade might look if he is traded.

This is why I don't see it happening via trade. I think Sakic would give up a lot for him, but he doesn't have a first and I highly doubt Byram or Newhook are on the table for pretty much anyone.

Barron, Helleson, Kaut, Foudy, Bowers, Olausson, Behrens, etc are all good pieces, but I think someone beats what Joe would be willing to do.

I really doubt Newhook would be traded especially since hes already an NHL caliber player

Avs are gonna be tight on cap so NHL quality guys with multiple years of their ELCs left are really valuable to COL

The Panthers have surplus on C, I don't think they will be pushing to add Hertl

there is 0 chance newhook would be involved in any trade talks. Hertl is a pending UFA, they never get those type of prospects/young players back
Avs wouldnt involve newhoook into Dubois talk at the start of last year...as an RFA with lots of team control cant get newhook into a convo, a pending UFA has 0 chance considering now hes in the NHL and shown he can handle it and already produce

I think the Florida teams are out, Tampa can't afford him and Panthers seem stacked up front, and need to resign barkov

I also don't see the fit in colorado capwise, also the lack of Czechs.. boston could work but they should try and add defense, MTL could afford him with weber on the LTIR, for the compensation of the offersheet

They need RD so Barron could be involved especially with the avs having plenty of Dmen. It would cost more though and Colorado has no first or 2nd this year.

I would have agreed about the Czech thing but Kaut posted an instagram story of him and Hertl skating together back in Czech Republic right before he came over to Denver. I do think they train with one another....with Frankie as well. Avs have a bigger czech connection that we might think at first glance

Boston would make sense to succeed Bergeron, but I just don't see Boston making that move. That means slotting Hertl in at 2C and making room for him some other way.
Looks a little tight, but manageable.

Not that I want Hertl to go to Boston mind you. Sticking Out Tongue

I dont think he would want Landeskog money but he will take the discount, i think maybe longer contract with lower AAV

I’ve made those arm chairs in the past, mostly I’ve traded combinations of ‘23 1st, Kaut, Barron, compher (too make the money work) helleson, after that I agree with the gentlemen above Avs NEED those contracts of Byram amd Newhook, that really the only way they can make it work with MACK contract and when Kuemper is up. Ultimately I think he’ll go to an east coast team who will sell their future for him but I think a contract in the 5.5-7 m AAV range will be it..

But realistically, I don't even have kaut in the 23 man roster to start the season, and francouz was great 2 years ago but missed a whole season, and is a ufa at the same time as hertl.

At this point it's more likely that kaut doesn't get qualified and joins the next team hertl signs with as a ufa

Kaut doesn’t get qualified? I can guarantee you he will get a qo from the avs in 2 years. That’s quite the hot take

I mean Boston seems to check some boxes there - with Pastrnak being the top Czech player at this point and being on the east coast. All depends on how McAvoy and Bergeron deals shake out. Its a long year a lot can change - but team and player seem to make some sense for one another.
