Why would CBJ do that?

Why would the Isles trade Noah Dobson for an older, more expensive version of Noah Dobson?

because they get a decent prospect plus a pretty good upcoming player and a 2nd for Laine who is a massive question mark going into this season. If he starts with Columbus and plays like last year they won't get close to this much value.

Make the 2022 6th rounder a 2022 1st rounder and the Jackets might consider it.

Wahlstrom and Dobson were Lou’s 1st picks as isles GM. Lou has too big of an ego to trade them unless he easily wins the trade.

Funny thing is, in his years with NJD, people complained that he never gave a chance to his draft picks.

I guess it depends on the player, but Dobson is an established NHLer and has been in the league since his D+2 season. I don’t know exactly how he was in NJ, but in Toronto and NY I don’t think he’s handled young players much differently than the average GM.

So we should sell super low on him? Not a chance. Especially not inter division. This ain’t close to the package we’d want either. A first and a good prospect is the minimum. We can go from there.

You can’t value Laine high enough to put him on your top line, while expecting a team to accept a return thats equivalent to an off-season trade for a bottom six center.

Even if he has another poor season with CBJ, I think a first and a good prospect is the baseline for him. The acquiring team knows he’d be more inclined to accept a short, team friendly deal, while also knowing he has a resume that includes 150 goals. At age 23.
