Quoting: Warrior24
The Isles forwards are set, and strome does not fit nor do the isles want him. You also are overvaluing him, unless he has a good year he is worth a 2nd. And I believe Lee, Bailey and Palmeri will all produce equal or better then him for the next 4 years.
The only way the isles trade for de Haan is if it is Hickey and a 4th for de Haan. At this point you cannot count on de Haan to play more then 60 games. The benefit to the hawks is after you bury Hickey you saved about 3m in cap.
Here’s why I value Strome at a 1st rounder:
- The first rounder will be a late one
- Strome would still be RFA by the end of this season, meaning unless he has his best year yet coming up, he won’t leave in free agency and will likely get another similarly cheap contract at the end of this year
- Strome has the potential to be a good 2nd line center-wing, he’s shown he can score at a high pace before. I see Strome as very low risk high reward while he’s still RFA; either we lose a late 1st rounder for a low cap hit point per two games kind of guy (worth it) or Strome lives up to his potential and we strike gold (even more worth it)
Young RFA center wings are a rare commodity, and its even rarer when a team wants to sell low on one.
But hey, if the Isles can nab Strome for a 2nd I’d be very happy with that!
