Seattle won't make the playoffs. So, at this point, this could be a good thing for them to take some picks.

As it stands, Seattle is in about the same situation as MTL where they don’t have any real center depth. Also, why would they let one of their better centers, who has won the cup twice mins you, go for only a first and a third? You also don’t know that they won’t make the playoffs. Vegas and Edmonton are most likely locks for 1 and 2 in the Pacific. However the Pacific still is guaranteed to get one more team into the playoffs. It could be one of Calgary, Vancouver, LA, or Seattle. Also, knowing MTL situation with centers, if Seattle were to do this, starting would be at the very least, 3 first round equivalents.

agree with most of this but that deal does not start with 3 first round equivalents, habs dont have to trade for gourde, I would say a 1st and a 3rd (or 2nd if needed) plus a prospect would be ablout as high as they would go, but to your point i think seattle has a legit chance of competing for a playoff spot in the pacific, and given its their first year it would be a very long way to put a competitive team on the ice so moving gourde for future doesnt really fit.
