Hertl might be the one

Description
Please don't pay too much attention to the trade itself. What I'm trying to demonstrate is how we can fit Hertl into our long-term plans. Obviously it is not a perfect trade.

I'm basing Hertl's deal loosely on the Couturier deal. I think they are pretty good comparables (to my understanding, I may be wrong), but obviously Hertl does not have a Selke.

For 23-24, the Wild have 14,6 million to sign Dumba, Boldy, Addison and depth. It's difficult, but manageable. 24-25 is a tough year, and then the Parise/Suter buyouts ease by multiple millions.

Is Hertl the C we need? Let me know!

For that price via trade and new contract, sure. But I don’t think much changes given the reliance on unproven young guys.

The trade is probably an underpay, I just didn't have the motivation to do too much research on the values and stuff. That isn't the main point of this ACGM.

I can see Hertl to MIN, but it'll cost a top prospect and 1st.

It's going to be tough finding the right price. Obviously, if Hertl comes with an extension, the price is high. Otherwise, he is just a rental and not worth a blue-chip prospect + a 1st.

I can’t, according to his Czech Interview he likes the east coast for easier travel, what’s to compete (minny isn’t a cup contender) wants a good place to raise his son, really wants to play with Czech players,

Minny really doesn’t meet any of those requirements

My ask is Boldy and the first, if Hertl extends with you.

I like everything showing here. My only concern is the future D core. It's expecting Addison, Lambos and whoever else to step up in a hurry. Plus you have the aging of the top 2, plus extending Dumba.

Hertl is incredibly intriguing if he's extended. We'd probably have to send Fiala to San Jose to make it work though and I'm not sure whether or not they'd want him

I don’t think Fiala makes for SJS. I think you’re looking at a 1st and some other piece, likely equivalent to a 2nd if they move him soon.

Don’t let Fiala become the new Dumba. Just because he’s likely to move doesn’t mean he makes sense for the move. Long way of saying don’t try to force it.

Not saying I want him moved, I'd love to keep him. But if we want Hertl we're going to have to move cap one way or another. I think a 1st and 2nd is pretty fair value-wise

So just to fully bring everything together, I think you are right that one of those guys needs to be moved. And it will likely have to be under market given it’s a cap move. So you’re looking at a 1st, 2nd, and Dumba/Fiala for Hertl when it’s all said and done. You fill one hole by making another.

Also just playing devils advocate. Maybe we can throw Rask to OTT retained and get Brown back on a flier. As much as it sucks, those are the moves we’re probably gonna see.
