Team: 2021-22 Custom Team

Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Barring season injury, or any unforeseen spectacular early season performances, this is my 2022 Olympics Team Canada.

Some of the decisions I made were based off of GM Doug Armstrong's comments on the team, that they will selecting players to fill certain roles (my take-away being they are looking for players that can kill penalties, are more defensive-minded and are hard on the forecheck).

From the arm chair GMs currently out there, it seems like there are 3 Maple Leafs (Marner, Tavares, Rielly) that are all basically assured spots. Perhaps most controversial about this team I've assembled is that you won't find Tavares or Rielly on it and I think Marner will be in tight to fight for a spot, whether he is an extra forward brought or not. In the case of Tavares and Rielly, I think the simple argument is that there are better players out there Team Canada can pick.

Perhaps the next most controversial pick I chose not to make was Jacob Chychrun and that is because I believe he has previously pledged his commitment to USA Hockey, even though he is a dual citizen.

Finally, you will see the likes of Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, Bo Horvat, Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock on my team. For some of the same reason I mentioned above, I think all have a legitimate shot at making this team. Perhaps Hyman, now playing with McDavid in Edmonton, has the best chance of this group to do so.
