That doesn't come close to Matthews. They would want Roster players in return

AZ doesn't really have many roster players that anyone would want. would 4 1st's and 4 2nd's be closer in your opinion? Personally I think Toronto would want picks to trade to teams that have players that can help them win a play off round.

These all seem heavily favored in AZs direction. No way Sharks are dumping early draft picks, they aren't a lot better than AZ, if Kane doesn't play and Hertl is traded away they may be worse than the Sabres. AZ should be bottom of the league though.

The Sharks need to dump Kane and his remaining 4 years before every other player on the team asks to be traded. Hertl wants out because of Kane, move Kane and maybe he'll stay. A 1st and 2nd is probably the least they will pay unless they wait to buy him out next year. I doubt that the NHL can prove he was betting on NHL games so terminating his contract seems very unlikely.

What do you think the cost is to get Matthews?

He'll just be Tony DeAngelo'd, no chance SJ pays anything to move him.

So you think Toronto would rather keep losing in the 1st round until Matthews contract expires and he leaves as a UFA? $11M in cap space and a bunch of 1st and 2nd round picks could really help Toronto have a better team.

They would have to wait until next off season to buy him out and his contract isn't real buyout friendly.

Cool, doesn't mean he has to be a member of the team until then, and SJ isn't exactly in a bad situation cap wise or financially.

Why do people always want to tack on weird circumstances that will not happen to trades to justify how bad they are?
No, the leafs are not trading top 3 player in the league and best goal scorer in the league for anything but a gross over payment and no, some mythical universe you have created does not change that

Sharks 1st option is to wait and see if Kane becomes a contract termination option.
Kane will be waived to AHL, not expected to report, if the Sharks can terminate the contract they do it, but if not they buy it out next off-season.
No way they give this much up, if the Sharks need to they retain half and find another team that is rebuilding to do the buyout. Right now the Sharks need prospects not cash so what you have here isn't a option.

Matthews isn't the reason Leafs lose in the first round. He is their best player. The problem is they paid JT too much. He isn't bad but he is expensive and they have too much money tied into 4 players, amazing players, but they can't afford depth players who can bare the load in the playoffs. If and when the Leafs decide to fix that the players who get moved are Willy and Mitch.

Jared loves his Leafs but I usually come to the conclusion that he knows his team well and his points are valid.

I agree however I think Matthews gets Toronto the best return and would be the easiest to trade. Also, I think AZ would probably be willing to give up more to get Matthews.

Matthews is worth a kings ransom and he would do wonders for the yotes. The problem is Leafs are in their Window so when they trade they want NHL ready talent and draft picks just are not ready to be big parts of a championship team.

I think Toronto would trade the picks for a few players who could help them win now. AZ doesn't really have any of those players so that's why I think offering lot's of draft picks would be the way to go. I'll edit the trades just for fun.

Deals like that are hard to set up ahead of time, however, Dubas is a smart guy and if he could find the right deals ahead of time then yes I agree it becomes a possibility.

Trades edited. Deleted the trade with the Sharks and added to the trade for Matthews.
