habs wouldve been way better off if they did, A Centre core of Suzuki/Danault/KK or Dvorak wouldve been respectable

They definitely should've kept Danault...but wasn't the problem that Danault himself was reluctant to stay and remain as their 3C behind Suzuki and Kotkaniemi? At least without an overpayment that is.

Things have changed now obviously but back in July that still was a thing.

cap wise that wouldn't have worked out to have all 3 but even if it did, Danault really belongs on a 3rd or 4th line. He's been free loading off the 2nd line wingers production for his stats in the last few years. I'm happy he was able to get the contract he did but he stood at 148th position in goals for centers last year. That puts him on the 5th line on most teams. 235th in centers for takeaways by 60 minutes which you might expect was one of his strong points for a defensive center. Nothing normal about paying 5,5m for someone that belongs on the 3rd/4th line on an average team.

hes one of the best defensive centres in the NHL if not the best. He neutralizes other teams stars

Not entire true. He was offered 5m (wanted 5.5-6)and he wanted to be in the top 6….. both easily could have been done. That’s what I heard

This is a terrible take…. Now Dvorak is your 2c and he’s actually a good 3c not 2c. Habs are going from cup final to lottery in 1 year

He got an offer, said no thank you and there was no further negociation for 6+ months... BECAUSE HE WANTED OUT.

That whole "top 6" argument is crap. Do you think we has less competition for a top 6 spot in LA?!?! Pure non sense.

In LA he belongs on the 4th line with the centers they have there. LA is probably going to try to make him look good at the beginning of the season but after a couple of losing streaks, they’ll be looking for more than defense from the 2nd line and he’ll be sent back down to the 3rd line (being the lowest position you can put a 5.5m player in without looking too bad as a GM).
