Description
Devils deal isn't anything serious, just want to hear what devil fans would be comfortable moving for Meier.

Labanc's production is similar to Dvorak, he's 1 year younger, and has salary retained so I think this trade would work.

Hertl trade is a rental move.

We have no interest in labanc. We either want a legit
1st liner/star to play with barzal or we will go with the guys we have. The amount of top 6/2nd liners we have already bailey, palmieri, beauvillier makes us completely uninterested in KL.
(Also considering our lack of 1st round picks recently, it would take a hell of a lot to get our 1st round pick this year).

That's fair. Any idea where it would be a good fit for him?

Why does Lebanc get more than Hertl? I think you could get more for Hertl… but less for Lebanc.

If only there were a way Sharks could retain on Meier's QO in 2023-24.
That $10 million is still an albatross.

So if Meier is dealt, maybe best that its done once he inks an extension (earliest would be July 1, 2022).

So 2 things.
1. Take out the 3rd. The way i see it is retention (2m×3) = 2nd rounder, and labanc at 3×2.75 equals a 1st. Hes not as good defensively as dvorak and hes also a winger as opposed to a center.
2. A team that might have interest would be COL. But idk if they would move another 1st. I could see CHI having interest as they need a RW2 and are facing a cap crunch, but like COL idk if they would be interested in moving another 1st. I could potentially see TOR having interest and moving nylander to LW but that doesnt seem like a great fit. EDM could be a good one depending on if they can move out some cap (idk how they value kassian). And maybe OTT though i think id have a hard time believing theyd move their 1st for him.

In a word?

Term...

If Hertl came with an extension it's a different story. But Lebanc comes with a relatively cheap contract and isn't a UFA until 2024. Conversely, Hertl costs more, is an UFA after this year and is due a moderate raise.

Lebanc is also being retained here though, so.

I wanted to make a mock trade for Khusnutdinov. The first is also more likely to be in the 15-25 range as well.

I dont know a smart GM would get an extension done so the QO is not an issue

Hertl is still worth more. He is a top 6 C and a 1c on many teams.

Back loaded contract. QO used to be based on final year salary. It isn't anymore, but Meier is grandfathered because his contract was in place before the rule was changed.

The idea is that he has leverage in his next negotiation. Give me what I want ($8M x 8 years for example), let me go to UFA, or pay me $10M a year until I go UFA anyway.

They'll either come to terms at a lower price or try to trade him to a team he'll agree to extend with. Either way he has a lot of control.

Would you accept Faksa, Dellandrea and a 2022 1st for Hertl 50% retained at the deadline?

Hertl won’t resign with us because we don’t have the cap next year.

That would be far from what the sharks want/will get and need. Faksa is 27 and wont grow much more, Dellandrea is arguably a bust, and that 2022 1st will be around 20-25

If you think a 21 year old kid who plays in the NHL is a bust than it’s obvious that we no longer need to have this conversation.

He didn't do very well with the amount of ice time he was given due to other player's injuries. Maybe he's a late bloomer, but the sharks wouldn't want to take the chance imo.
