Technically they can. They would just have make it that it is the pick that won't go to Arizona.

Its not harder because Kotkaniemi was never a starting point. It starts at Caufield. Primeau and Guhle do not have value to Buffalo. Caufield, Poehling, Hillis and a 22 1st, youre welcome, plus Drouin for cap if need be

Caufield, Romanov, Poehling, Drouin and a first for Eichel. Poehling is the sweetener for taking Drouin.

Sure, but you think Hillis > Romanov or are you adding more value to that trade?

And since its gonna be the lesser of the 2, we get the worse pick of the team that just lost the stanley cup or the canes that are probably the better team.

$14M to sign 10 players next season. Suzuki and Romanov among them. Nice thought, but not practical.
Wait and see how Caufield, Drouin, Poehling, and Dvorak perform.

Technically that is a HUGE offer for Eichel!
I only wish Buffalo needed GK and LHD prospects.
I would make it:
Ikonen for Primeau
Drouin, he is either flipped for assets at the TDL or he does poorly and helps Buffalo reach the floor. I think we would see the former
Poehling, of course Caufield is better, but he does have the potential to be a mid 6 center
Brooks for Guhle they have about equal potential, but Buffalo could use a RHD not a LHD
2022 1st round pick (CAR)
2023 1st round pick (MTL)
2022 2nd round pick (MTL)
Then add the Byron trade for cap purposes.
Byron, he could be put on waivers or used to KP
2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
2022 3rd round pick (MTL)
Buffalo gets two useful prospects, two players to help reach the cap floor, two 1st round draft picks, two 2nd round draft picks, and a 3rd.
If Drouin could reproduce his 2016-2019 performance level, he could easily return a first and more at the TDL.
But based on his out put the last two year he has neutral value. He could be nothing more than cap filler which means his value is negative, or he could return to his best three years and produce a nice return.
