While I definitely don’t see that particular trade happening, simply because Kreider would never get traded within the division let alone to Columbus, I love how many people across this website are calling Kreider a cap dump specifically because of his contract. For as long as Kreider is the player that he is, he is not and never will be a cap dump. When healthy and playing a full season, he is a consistent 20+ goal, 50+ point scorer and this season in particular, he had 20 goals and 30 points in 50 games while averaging 4 goals and about 4-8 points every 10 games which puts him on pace for about 32-34 goals and 50-53 points in a full 82 game season. So if there was a full 82 game season last year and if he stayed completely healthy, he would’ve either tied or come close to his career high in points and would’ve absolutely set a new career high in goals. Plus when you factor his speed and his powerplay production into it, competitive teams would absolutely be frothing at the mouth to acquire a player like Chris Kreider if the Rangers ever decided to sell him and there are a few teams in particular both competitive and fringe that I can see wanting to acquire him at a buyer’s price just as there are a few teams that Kreider would probably be willing to waive his NMC for down the line. He’s not getting traded right now and he’s certainly not getting traded to Columbus let alone within the division, but let’s just stop pretending that Kreider is a cap dump when he clearly isn’t. Break down the numbers people and you’ll realize it to.
