Description
This is the worst-case scenario should the 21-22 season go south for the Sharks and Kane not have his contract terminated. San Jose is... not in the best of situations with their contracts and cap management but a few tweaks should make this silent rebuild less painful for fans while ensuring more top prospects refresh their farm system.

I know the Burns trade is not ideal, however, I'm not sure how else we can get out of some of the contracts we have. It's critical for the Sharks to get as many picks as possible and Burns can still perform as an offensive D for a playoff contender that can cover for him defensively. Not to mention that Merkley has been overtaken by Kniazev, Ferraro, and Knyzhov in the young D pecking order and that he will likely need a change in scenery to get himself together.

If the Hertle trade comes with an extension Philly does it. I think you could easily get more for Meier to

Merkley is still very much in our future plans, and the 3 you mentioned are all LD and Merkley is our only above average RD prospect, so until you have someone to replace him let him develop.
and that return would still be weak if we retain that much on burns.

I think this is purely hypothetical and if your in playoff contention he would be a valuable asset, however I would like him to stay and help mentor the kids.

Pavelski will take closer to 1-2 years 4.5-5 mil after his last season and the playoff run the year before.
you have 1 real RD and 5 LD on this lineup and only 1 true RW, i would consider a better balance going forward.

Merkley is still worth about a 2nd, which means Burns with 50% retention is only getting a 3rd and a 7th, and that is really really really bad.

Not only would you have to pay to dumb a 36-year-old with three years of term, and making 4M even after 50% of retention, the Panthers are in no position to acquire Burns. They have cap problems of their own with Barkov and Huby to sign.

Burns nowadays is good for 40 points a season plus defensive headaches. Kinda like Yandle, who the Panthers just bought out.

I think its about right on NJD deal - Kuok plus a 2nd has been my benchmark.
I also think Devils would consider Bonino if they turn into buyers over next year.
Could be nice bridge to Mercer at 3C.

Don’t like the Burns or Meier trade for the sharks.
