Hertling through cap space 20

Created by: KentMcNally
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 7, 2021
Published: Sep. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The non first round picks can be interchanged a bit.
Hertl is obviously the big acquisition and they would have to extend him AFTER they get him (otherwise SJ may ask for more).
The lines: #1 is purely offense
#2 is mostly offense with Gallagher's grit and skill in there
# 3 has plenty of offense for a third line plus Lehkonen's defensive responsibility, which will let the other guys take more risk
#4 some good defensive minded players and speed
Vlasic may only be a 7th defenseman, but could also mentor Romanov, who can make up for Vlasic's lack of foot speed. Hakanpaa is teh 6th or 7th D, unless Wideman gets injected from time to time to help teh power play.

I know Holtby has a lot of risk as a backup for Price (especially if Price gets hurt), but the Allen trade saves some cap space.

Who knows? Maybe at the trade deadline they bring back PK Subban when his cap hit is lower and NJ retains some money.

There is still $2,400,000.00 in cap space available.

I'm SJS I'm taking that and running. I lover Hertl but to get those picks AND get rid of Vlassic would be huge.

Why would you ever willingly take on Vlasic' contract, it's atrocious, even with retention. I love Hertl but taking on Vlasic is too much, especially with those picks going the other way.
As for Allen, why would you downgrade so much with Holtby only to save like 750k$? It's not worth it.
The other two trades are fine but I don't think they happen.

How much do you take out of the Hertl and Vlasic deal that I proposed?

I figured they could still pay Vlasic what they are paying and still sign Suzuki and Hertl at $7M each for their next contracts. They would then have to shed some contracts for 2023/24 to pay Caufield (assuming he develops the way everyone expects), but that could be letting go of a Hoffman or Toffoli by then.

My numbers also had Romanov extended at $3.25 for a bridge contract.

This ia a three year plan that takes a shot at winning big, which is what every team in the playoff hunt should do.

Vlasic could also be bought out down the line if necessary. Plus, at his age, he may retire soon, especially if Montreal managed to pull off a Cup win.

Certainly the Sabres aren't giving up anything for an overpaid 3rd/4th liners in in Armia. Seattle prefers to keep 3.4m in cap space for two years instead of Byron.

Stars aren’t trading two guys they just signed. We’ll take Armia tho. Vlasic’s contract is a nightmare

Yes the Sharks take that in heartbeat. I can live with the quitter for that return.

Seattle is not stupid. Byron going to need a 2nd attached to move that contact.
